Job Responsibilities

An appointment as an assistant professor is a fixed-term merit-based position of at least four and at most six years according to the Higher Education Ordinance 4 chap. 12 a§. The purpose of the position is to develop independence as a researcher and to qualify both scientifically and pedagogically to meet the eligibility requirements for an appointment as a university lecturer.

Your research area, reliable and resilient intelligent systems within Smart Systems of Systems, aims to develop a layered framework for reliability to ensure both safety and security. This involves creating advanced algorithms for safety control, modeling system dependencies, and methods for fault propagation and traceability, enabling increased resilience and reliability in complex, interconnected systems.

The position will consist of at least 80% research, and teaching may comprise up to 20%, involving reliable smart systems within Dependable Software Engineering. The research component will consist of both independent research and participation in projects in collaboration with other researchers and doctoral students at MDU, as well as collaboration with external parties (both public and private sectors). Supervision of doctoral students, master's students, and/or undergraduate students may be part of the job responsibilities, as well as participation in applications for external research funding. You will be a valued member of the research orientation Software and Systems Engineering (SSE) and make valuable contributions to research in the development of new technology for analyzing risk and hazard assessment for safety-critical systems.

Eligibility Requirements

We are looking for someone who has obtained a doctoral degree or has reached equivalent competence no more than five years before the application deadline.

To be employed as a teacher at MDU, higher education pedagogical training or equivalent knowledge is required. Those who are employed but lack higher education pedagogical training will be offered to undergo such training within two and a half years of employment. The higher education pedagogical training at Mälardalen University corresponds to ten weeks of training.

For this position, the following eligibility requirements apply, in addition to those established in the Employment Regulations at MDU:

• Doctoral degree in computer science
• Documented expertise in security for collaborative intelligent systems or dependable systems with a publication record of good publications

Upon Promotion to University Lecturer

At the end of the appointment as an assistant professor, you have the right to be considered for a position as a university lecturer. The position as a university lecturer is permanent. Applications for promotion must be submitted no later than six months before the end of the employment period. At the time of promotion to university lecturer, you must have completed qualifying higher education pedagogical training.

For eligibility to be promoted to university lecturer, you must have demonstrated the scientific competence and teaching ability required for a position as a university lecturer.
