At the Academy of Education, Culture, and Communication (UKK), our students primarily study programs in teacher education, but programs and courses in language and communication, mathematics/applied mathematics, physics, music and opera, as well as the preparatory education technical foundation year are also offered. MDU's research focus on educational science and mathematics is part of the academy. Our work is done in collaboration with the surrounding community and international partners.

Job Responsibilities

As a university lecturer at MDU, your main responsibilities will be teaching. Teaching also includes supervision, examination, course evaluation, and course development. Here, research and education are closely intertwined, and research forms the basis for our education. Collaboration is also an integral part of our research and educational mission, and as a university lecturer, you actively contribute to the university's development work. Your tasks will also include general administration and professional development, as well as participating in the daily operations of the subject and the academy.

You will teach in teacher education in mathematics didactics for the preschool teacher program and the primary school teacher programs f-3 and 4-6. You will also supervise and examine independent projects. Research is also included in the position.

You will be part of one or more research environments, and there is an opportunity to participate in collaborative projects. The academy regularly offers seminars where there is an opportunity to listen to or present ongoing research at the institution. The research environment linked to the department is called MNT (subject didactics in mathematics, natural sciences, and technology), where central questions include how students perceive teaching and how teachers create conditions for learning. In addition to conducting your own research, you are expected to seek external funding and work to strengthen/build the existing research environment. Supervision of doctoral students may also occur.

The department's employees are located in both Västerås and Eskilstuna, and teaching is also conducted at both locations, which means that the place of employment can be discussed during the hiring process.

Eligibility Requirements

We are looking for someone who has demonstrated pedagogical skills and has obtained a doctoral degree or has equivalent scientific competence.

The scientific and pedagogical skills must be documented in such a way that the quality of previous work can be assessed.

To be employed as a teacher at MDU, higher education pedagogical training or equivalent knowledge is required. Those who are hired but lack higher education pedagogical training will be offered to undergo such training within two and a half years of employment. The higher education pedagogical training at Mälardalen University corresponds to ten weeks of training.

In addition to the eligibility requirements established in the Employment Regulations at MDU, the following additional eligibility requirements apply to this position: You must have a teaching degree with qualifications in the subject of mathematics. You must also have good oral and written communication skills in Swedish at the level required to perform regular tasks in research, teaching, and administration.

Assessment Criteria

The assessment criteria will include the degree of skill required for the position, as well as the ability and suitability otherwise required to perform the tasks well.

In addition to the assessment criteria established in the Employment Regulations at MDU, special emphasis will be placed on the following for this position:

• Experience of practice-based mathematics didactic research related to the relevant school forms (preferably in collaboration).
• Experience of teaching mathematics preferably at the primary school level.
• Teacher education related to the relevant school forms.
• Experience of having worked as a teaching lecturer at a university/college.
• Experience of having taught in the relevant school forms.
