Welcome to Östergötlands Museum - a vibrant and multifaceted organization that not only manages and showcases art and cultural history but also invites visitors to guided tours, cultural events, workshops, museum shops, restaurants, conferences, as well as study circles and networks. We also conduct business activities in archaeology, conservation, and building preservation. In addition to our museum building in central Linköping, we also operate at Löfstad Castle outside Norrköping and at the Sancta Birgitta Cloister Museum in Vadstena, as well as managing several culturally significant farms and properties in the region.
About the position
Beautifully situated in the Östgöta manor landscape lies Löfstad Castle; a popular and well-established destination with regional, national, and international visitors. The castle dates back to the 17th century and has been owned by the families Lillie, De la Gardie, von Fersen, and Piper. We offer our visitors a varied program including guided tours of the castle, the well-attended Christmas market, lectures, workshops, theater, and the traditional Midsummer celebration. We run a castle shop in one wing, and there is also a garden center with a café and an inn on the premises, both operated privately. The collections, as well as some property and park management, are part of the operations.
Östergötlands Museum is entering a new organizational and management structure and is now seeking a unit manager who can lead the work of managing and developing Löfstad Castle as a museum and visitor destination.
Your interest in visitor destination development and experience working in historical environments will be crucial in this exciting role.
Responsibilities
As a unit manager, you will:
- Lead and develop the unit for Löfstad Castle and ensure an efficient and well-functioning operation.
- Have personnel responsibility for four permanent employees working with the shop, administration, property, garden, education, and guiding, as well as several hourly employees.
- Have budget responsibility for the visitor destination.
- Initiate and drive development projects in collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Strengthen cooperation between the castle's various tenants and partners.
- Develop and implement programs for guided tours and other visitor activities.
- Work to make Löfstad Castle's collections and environments accessible and relevant for all visitors.
- Build and maintain good relationships with external partners, both regionally and internationally.
You will be part of the management team at Östergötlands Museum and report directly to museum management.
It is important that you enjoy both the managerial and operational work within the unit. Leading a team requires the ability to motivate and support employees while maintaining focus on the organization's goals and results.
Qualifications
You have:
- A university degree or equivalent in a relevant academic field.
- A valid driver's license (B).
We would like you to have:
- Previous experience in visitor destination development, preferably with a focus on historical environments.
- Well-reputed leadership experience.
- The ability to lead and develop staff, as well as an interest in knowledge and development work related to collections and guiding.
As a person, you see what needs to be done and ensure that it gets done. You shift seamlessly between operational and strategic work as needed, build strong and secure relationships around you, and communicate clearly. You strive for continuous improvement and find development stimulating.
Your personal qualities are crucial to our success. You are results-oriented, a good communicator, and have an analytical and structured approach. Your strong interest in history and the visitor industry will help us develop Löfstad Castle forward.
Other
The position is a permanent full-time employment. Start date is negotiable.
By working with us, you are helping to preserve our shared cultural heritage, as well as develop culture in the region moving forward.
