We are looking for a Technical Specialist in railway vehicles for the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket).

This is a consulting assignment.

The assignment can be performed mostly from home.

The assignment involves close collaboration with the client, which places high demands on flexibility and teamwork.

The Assignment

The assignment within the framework agreement will concern dynamic behavior and include the contribution of railway vehicles in cooperation between railway vehicles and tracks, as well as regulations for requirement limits. These requirements are crucial for how quickly the track deteriorates and thus the maintenance costs required to maintain an acceptable standard on the network.

The Swedish Transport Administration needs to complement the dynamic behavior expertise, where the contracted resource will also collaborate with the agency's track dynamic experts. It is important for the Swedish Transport Administration to hire dynamic behavior experts in contexts that may affect maintenance costs, thus ensuring that the expertise is available in the long term within the agency and ultimately in Sweden as a whole.

Typical Tasks

• Develop existing models for calculating the interaction of railway vehicles with the tracks.
• Provide specialist support and competence development regarding the interaction of railway vehicles with the tracks.
• In the revision and development of standards within CEN TC256/WG10 for cooperation between railway vehicles and tracks.
• Actively participate in CEN TEC256/WG10/SG8 regarding the revision of EN 14 363 Railways - Acceptance of dynamic properties of railway vehicles - Testing of dynamic behavior. The Swedish Transport Administration has held the chairmanship for several years. Whether the agency will continue to hold the chairmanship will be discussed after the EN 14 363 standard and technical report are published.
• Assume the role of the Client's technical specialist in the area of railway vehicle interaction with tracks regarding issues related to TSD and EU directives for railways.
• Technical specialist for issues regarding railway vehicle - track interaction handled within the Swedish Transport Administration.
• Independently conduct technical investigations within the technical area.
• Support the agency's regulatory authors with dynamic behavior expertise when regulations and requirements are updated.
• Assist with competence support and competence development regarding railway vehicle interaction with the tracks to the agency's internal resources.
• Conduct internal training at the Swedish Transport Administration within the technical area upon request.

Requirements (IMPORTANT, mandatory)

Master's degree in engineering or other education that is deemed equivalent in content and scope to a master's degree in engineering.

Good knowledge and at least ten (10) years of professional experience from both theoretical and practical work within the technical area of railway vehicle - track interaction and the conditions that exist in Sweden within the technical area. This means that:

• be well versed in fatigue phenomena and wear at wheel-rail contact related to both safety and maintenance.
• have competence and experience regarding the development of calculation and simulation methods for dynamic behavior of railway vehicles and be accustomed to using simulation tools.
• have knowledge of testing for dynamic acceptance of railway vehicles.
• as well as have knowledge and experience in essential measurement methods relevant to dynamic behavior.

Good knowledge and at least one (1) year of experience in participating in international standardization work within railway vehicle - track interaction. Thus, the consultant has good knowledge of various conditions that exist in Europe within the technical area.

Good ability to express oneself well in both Swedish and English, both spoken and written, within the requested technical area.
