There is something special about Avesta!

Here, you will find not only Dala horses and rushing rapids but also will and courage, initiative, and faith in the future. It is the strength of the people that makes Avesta unique. Together, we are building the future of Avesta – do you want to join us?

The Västmanland-Dalarna Environmental and Building Administration is a merger of the environmental and building administrations of Avesta, Fagersta, and Norberg. The joint administration, with Avesta as the host municipality, operates under a common political committee with representation from all three municipalities. With units for Environment, Planning & Building, Mapping & Measurement, and Administration, the administration serves a region with just over 42,000 inhabitants.

Within our administration, there is a common value base built on Engagement, Cooperation, and Trust. This means that through great commitment to our work, we can inspire our colleagues and together develop the operations and achieve common goals. We support, help, and uplift each other with respect for our different roles and trust that others will perform their tasks to the best of their ability. It is important to us that everyone can feel trust and security, that we can be ourselves, and that everyone is accepted for who they are.

The Environmental Unit currently consists of 18 employees, including the environmental manager. Here, we work in teams based on our areas of expertise, where we collaborate and drive development both within teams and at the unit level. We are now looking for an environmental inspector with a strong interest in environmental issues and development work – could it be you?

RESPONSIBILITIES

As an environmental inspector, you will primarily work with tasks related to environmental protection. Together with our other qualified inspectors, mainly within the environmental protection team, you will:

  • plan and conduct inspections of environmentally hazardous activities within various subject areas under the Environmental Code, respond to consultations, handle notification cases, and investigate complaints
  • process and investigate cases, draft service letters, and independently make decisions on cases of varying scope and complexity on behalf of the Environmental and Building Committee

Depending on your experience and interests, there is also the possibility to allocate some of the work to contaminated areas. The work with contaminated areas includes inventory according to MIFO phase 1, processing §28 notifications, and liability investigations.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone with environmental inspector training, another relevant university education, or experience that we consider equivalent. You have experience in governmental work within environmental protection, with good knowledge of the Environmental Code and the Administrative Procedure Act. It is an advantage if you have knowledge of contaminated areas, either through experience or studies. You also need good computer skills with a good familiarity with systems and a positive attitude towards digital tools.

We place great importance on personal qualities. The position involves a lot of personal contacts, so it is especially important that you have a high sense of service and a good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish. Since a large part of the work consists of inspections and visits that are carried out independently, a B driver's license is required.

Your strength lies in your communication, which is evident in how you meet our operators. Through open dialogue and a respectful approach, you are clear about expectations and the requirements that apply. You have a good ability to plan and prioritize your time.

It is an advantage if you are proactive and independently drive your areas forward. At the same time, you are a team player who appreciates collaboration and wants to contribute to the group's common results. It is desirable that you are flexible and take responsibility for your tasks.

OTHER

Benefits

We care about our employees. You have wellness hours and wellness money, access to a newly renovated staff gym, free swimming in the municipal swimming pool, and many other free wellness activities organized by the municipality continuously.

To ensure the quality of the recruitment process in Avesta Municipality and to meet the requirements set by GDPR, we ask you to submit your application digitally and not via email or paper format. This also enables good communication with our applicants.

Warm welcome with your application!
