Research Assistant in Psychiatry

The Department of Medical Sciences is a large clinical department with approximately 250 employees and over 900 individuals affiliated via Uppsala University Hospital. The department has a broad research profile with strong research groups in a number of areas. Research takes place in close proximity to the clinical operations at Uppsala University Hospital and includes both basic studies on disease causes and the development and evaluation of improved diagnostics and new treatment methods. The department hosts the Research Group on Psychosis Research and Preventive Psychiatry, which investigates major psychiatric disease groups using various research methods. Within the psychosis field, we have recently launched the Uppsala Psychosis Cohort (UPC), a multimodal, longitudinal research study aimed at identifying biological disease mechanisms in individuals in the early stages of psychotic illness. The project is led by Professor Simon Cervenka, who is also the head of the research group.

Responsibilities

As a Research Assistant, you will become part of the team researching psychosis and will assist the project with various aspects. The tasks primarily relate to data management and modeling of time-series data for psychotic symptoms, as well as the ongoing construction and modeling of symptom networks, including review and critical evaluation of these. Additional tasks may be assigned.

Qualifications

Degree from a Psychology program. Fluency in Swedish and English. Solid foundational knowledge of the programming language R and REDCap, along with experience working with these tools. Good understanding of theory and substantial experience in the application of experience sampling methodology and network analysis, particularly the Perceived Causal Networks method. Previous clinical experience with patients suffering from psychosis, psychosis-spectrum disorders, or at high risk for psychosis. Initiative and a structured work approach are important for this position. Furthermore, personal suitability such as flexibility, independence, and problem-solving skills are highly valued.

Desirable/Additional Merits

Previous experience working in interdisciplinary teams. Interest in disease concepts, research methodology, and early intervention.

About the Position

The position is fixed-term for 4 months. The extent is 10%. Start date: September 1, 2026, or as agreed. Location: Uppsala.
