About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will become safer and more secure for everyone. We are the agency responsible for prisons, probation, remand prisons, and client transport.
Description
The Business Area (VO) Tillberga consists of a prison with 247 places in security class 3. The prison offers an attractive environment with a well-functioning program activity and valuable employment through the house factory that engages the clients. There are approximately 100 employees, the majority of whom are prison officers, but the staff also includes cooks, production managers, program managers, nurses, and others. The prison is located in Tillberga, just north of Västerås, and is led by a Prison Director together with five prison inspectors.
Job Description
Do you want to contribute to a safer and more secure society?
As a prison officer at the facility, you are an important part of the security work and work together with other professional groups to maintain a safe, secure, and structured operation. This position is particularly focused on execution planning and involves combining security-related tasks with administrative duties and qualified client contacts.
The role includes planning and monitoring clients' execution of sentences, working with preparations for release, discharge measures, and permission matters, and contributing to ensuring that clients receive clear and realistic planning during their time in prison. The work also involves documentation, collaboration with internal and external actors, and a structured approach where risk assessment, security awareness, and lawful handling are central components.
A key part of the role is conversations with clients. These conversations may concern boundary setting, taking responsibility, and creating motivation for change and a life without crime. Therefore, you must be able to combine clarity and integrity with a professional attitude, where you can both set boundaries and support the client in working towards a successful release.
It is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values regarding a human view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop and change.
The probationary period begins with a three-week introduction at the Tillberga prison. After a few months of service, we will schedule when you are to begin the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's mandatory basic training. The training lasts eight weeks and takes place during paid working hours. Assessment is ongoing before the probationary period transitions to a permanent position after six months.
