We are now recruiting standby rescue personnel – join us at Mälardalen Rescue Service in Hallstahammar/Kolbäck!
Description
We are looking for part-time firefighters for Mälardalen Rescue Service's operations in Hallstahammar/Kolbäck, based at the new fire station Eriksberg!
As standby rescue personnel (RiB), you have a role alongside your regular job and respond to alarms in the area where you live and work. You will become part of a team responsible for carrying out rescue operations and contributing to public safety.
About the job
Being a part-time firefighter means you live and work in your daily routine as usual, but during certain weeks you are on standby. This means you must be ready to respond when an alarm is raised – regardless of the time of day.
When on standby, you carry your pagers and must be able to reach the fire station within 5 minutes. From there, you head out on various rescue missions together with your colleagues.
These missions can include fires in buildings, vehicles, or in forests and open land. You may also respond to traffic accidents, automatic alarms, acute medical emergencies where you provide first aid while waiting for an ambulance, or other incidents requiring immediate assistance.
Your task is to work together with your colleagues to create safety, help those affected, and limit damage as much as possible.
Between calls, you train and educate yourselves regularly. You become part of a group where cooperation, responsibility, and trust are crucial.
About the assignment
- Standby according to schedule, usually every third or fourth week. A standby week is 168 hours (24/7 for seven days).
- Opportunity to swap standby shifts with colleagues if needed.
- You are based at Fire Station Eriksberg (between Hallstahammar and Kolbäck).
- You participate in training exercises for approximately 3 hours per week, usually in the evenings during your standby week.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who:
- Is at least 18 years old.
- Has a driver's license, category B or higher.
- Has good physical fitness and health (including passing the treadmill test with equipment at 4.5 km/h) and meets swimming requirements with certification (Swedish Life Saving Society's "Gold Buoy").
- Can remain calm and make decisions under pressure.
- Has good teamwork skills.
- Must live and work close enough to reach the fire station within 5 minutes when on standby.
- Previous experience from rescue services, healthcare, or other operational activities is meritorious but not required. We cover all training required to become a part-time firefighter.
Important to know
- The role of part-time firefighter is a side job and cannot be a full-time position. You must have another main employer or primary occupation.
- You have the right to leave your main job immediately when called out.
- You are expected to maintain good physical fitness to perform the duties.
- We conduct annual medical check-ups and offer PSA tests for employees over 50 years old.
- We conduct alcohol testing for all personnel within the association.
- We are recruiting over the next 6 months and filling positions on an ongoing basis.
We offer
- Paid training to become a part-time firefighter.
- Regular exercises and continuous professional development.
- A varied and socially important assignment.
- Compensation according to the current collective agreement for standby rescue personnel (RiB 25).
- Access to training and gym facilities 24/7.
- Wellness benefit in the form of a shoe subsidy (1,000 SEK/year).
- Work clothes and equipment (uniform).
- Opportunities for further development and career growth within the rescue service.
We warmly welcome your application!
