About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will become safer and more secure for everyone. We are the agency responsible for prisons, probation services, remand prisons, and prisoner transport.
The Gävle operational area includes the closed prison Gävle, the open prison Gruvberget, and the remand prison Bomhus. Our operations run 24/7, and the largest professional group is prison officers, supported by about ten other positions to ensure our mission. At the Gävle and Gruvberget prisons, inmates are engaged in education, other structured activities, treatment programs, self-management, or in work operations which mainly consist of carpentry production. You can easily reach Gävle Prison and Bomhus Remand Prison by public transport, while access to a car is required for Gruvberget Prison. Staff parking is available.
We are now looking for a nurse for parental leave coverage at Gävle Prison from 2028-09-26 to 2030-09-30.
Job Description
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service provides certain open healthcare services, which means that all prisons and remand prisons have health clinics where inmates can seek care. At the clinics, in addition to nurses, there are also general practitioners and psychiatrists. As a nurse, you have your own clinic for assessing minor ailments, but you also assess which patients should see a doctor. This means you work with both somatic and psychiatric healthcare for inmates, assist at doctor's clinics, and administer medication primarily through dose dispensing. Documentation is done in the PMO patient data journal until November, and thereafter in CGM J4, as the agency will switch to a new journal system at that time.
Some duty will also take place at Gruvberget Prison.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who is confident, stable, and self-aware. You find it easy to cooperate with other people and have well-founded and clear values. In stressful situations, you are calm, stable, and controlled. You have great integrity and the ability to make correct assessments and prioritizations. You are quality-conscious and meticulous, and have the ability to structure your approach yourself and drive your processes forward.
To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that humans are capable of development. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. Furthermore, you are expected to contribute with your attitude to ensuring that everyone is treated equally. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Registered Nurse license
- Ability to express yourself well in spoken and written Swedish
- Category B driver's license
The following are also meritorious:
- A specialization or further education relevant to the employer, for example within psychiatry, child and adolescent healthcare, emergency care, or outpatient care
- Work experience in the profession
- Relevant language skills
