Hospitals in the West is an administration within the Region of Västra Götaland and consists of four hospitals – Alingsås Hospital, Angered Primary Care Hospital, Högsbo Primary Care Hospital, and Kungälv Hospital. About Our Surgical Department

The Surgical Department is a general surgical ward part of the Surgery and Orthopedics unit. In 2019, we moved into our new facilities at the hospital. The new department has 23 care beds designed to provide each team of nurses, nursing assistants, paramedics, and doctors with a good working environment and modern technology, ensuring the conditions to perform safe, patient-centered care together with patients and relatives.

We primarily investigate and treat patients with acute surgical diseases of the abdomen and gastrointestinal tract, traumatic surgical injuries, and urological conditions. We admit both emergency patients and those coming for planned surgery. The department also collaborates closely with the Palliative Care Team and manages five action beds for patients admitted to the palliative team.

As a nurse at the Surgical Department, you will never work alone. We work in teams that collaborate closely with various healthcare professions. We have close cooperation with the surgical clinic, the palliative care team, dietitians, and primary care teams.

New Nurse or New to Surgical Nursing?

Introduction

Upon employment, we arrange a secure and supportive shadowing period of 4 weeks based on your needs.

Clinical Base Year

For you as a newly graduated nurse, a Clinical Base Year is included during the first year of your permanent employment. The Clinical Base Year includes lectures, process-oriented nursing guidance, and practical training of your profession at the Simulation Center. It also includes shadowing in other units to give you a broader understanding of the hospital where you work.

Qualifications

You are a licensed nurse; previous experience in surgical and/or palliative care is meritorious. We are looking for someone who is flexible, independent, and meticulous. You will work with varying tasks and patient categories. Furthermore, you have a cheerful and positive attitude that aligns well with the department's spirit. Personal suitability is highly valued.

Conditions

The position involves day, evening, and weekend shifts.
