Awake Night Assistant for 4-Year-Old Boy with Respiratory Support – Årsta

Are you the one we are looking for?

We are seeking a secure and experienced individual for an awake night shift caring for a 4-year-old boy who requires extensive respiratory support at home. The boy lives with his parents in Årsta, and the work is carried out in close collaboration with the family. You will play a crucial role in creating a sense of security during the nights – both through technical care and gentle presence.

Achondroplasia is a congenital skeletal disorder and the most common form of dwarfism. It can affect breathing, especially during sleep, as narrower airways and reduced muscle tone can increase the risk of snoring or sleep apnea. Our child therefore needs nighttime supervision and some respiratory monitoring to ensure safe and secure sleep.

Responsibilities:

During the night, you are responsible for monitoring the boy's breathing, well-being, and medical equipment. The tasks include:

• Monitoring and handling of BiPAP – including program adjustments, mask changes, checking headgear/straps, and responding to alarms or low/high saturation and pulse levels

• Use of Bitmos pulse oximeter and oxygen concentrators (three levels)

• Nighttime supervision – including positioning to facilitate breathing, lifting from a low bed, and comforting upon waking

• Mucus management – such as nasal irrigation, nasal spray, nasal toilet, and inhalation with saline or medication

• Comforting presence – holding the child upright in your arms when necessary

• Disconnecting and reconnecting equipment – when the child wakes up and falls back asleep (multiple times per night)

• Replacing defective parts and checking ventilation flow

This is a role for someone who wants to be a safe haven during the night while having experience handling advanced respiratory equipment.

Who are you?

We are looking for someone with a big heart and a calm, empathetic demeanor. You are attentive, can take initiative, and enjoy creating a pleasant atmosphere at home. You must be a non-smoker! Personal chemistry is important, so we are looking for someone who is positive, stress-resistant, patient, and eager to become a significant part of our client's life. Experience in personal assistance or similar work is a plus, but the most important thing is that you are engaged and confident in your role.

• Experience working with children with medical needs, preferably in home or hospital settings

• Good knowledge of BiPAP, pulse oximeters, oxygen, and respiratory care

• Ability to remain calm under pressure

• Attentive, calm, and empathetic in interactions with both the child and parents

Merits:

• Nursing assistant education or equivalent competence

• Previous work with children with respiratory issues

• Experience with awake night shifts within LSS (Swedish Social Services Act), personal assistance, or pediatric care

Employment level: 2-3 nights per week (primarily Friday, Saturday, Sunday nights) – awake night shift.

Salary: Hourly wage is fixed according to agreement, and other compensations are made according to the collective agreement.

Start date: As soon as possible according to agreement, running as long as the assistance assignment lasts.
