Are you a veterinarian interested in working with animal welfare and food safety? We are currently seeking a veterinarian to be based at Atria near Sölvesborg, where you will work with varied tasks alongside dedicated colleagues in a constantly developing operation within the Poultry Team.

A Sustainable Employment

The Swedish Food Agency works actively to offer employees sustainable employment. We provide a good introduction when you start with us, and we offer secure working conditions and good benefits. These include wellness allowances, subsidized massage, and a generous number of vacation days. We want you to feel that it is enjoyable to go to work and that what you do is important. As an official veterinarian, you contribute to ensuring that Sweden has good animal welfare and safe food.

As a veterinarian at the Swedish Food Agency, you have independent responsibilities, but when facing difficult decisions and situations, your knowledgeable colleagues are just a phone call away. Here, you become part of a team where we help and support each other in our daily work. Together, we make a difference!

A Crucial Societal Mission

As an official veterinarian at the Swedish Food Agency, you contribute to ensuring that Sweden has good animal welfare and safe food. Your responsibilities include live animal inspections and post-mortem inspections, which involve both animal welfare checks and assessments of whether the meat can be approved as food. The role involves varied tasks, and no two days are exactly alike.

As a public authority official, you have an important mission towards companies. You perform a control function but also act as a support to make it easier for companies to do the right thing. You do this, for example, by informing about what good animal welfare entails, the animals' needs and species-specific characteristics, and by helping to create understanding for hygiene and food safety in food production.

About the Team and Employment

The Poultry Team is part of the Food Control Unit for Southern Sweden but has specific responsibility for all controls at Sweden's poultry slaughterhouses. This creates cohesion within the area and enables equality and development. The team consists of approximately 25 official veterinarians.

The fixed-term position runs until the turn of the year. The facility primarily associated with this role has varying working hours, including inconvenient times such as early mornings and evenings.

At the unit, we also work across team boundaries, which means work at other types of slaughterhouses and game handling facilities may also become relevant. You will be offered an introduction based on your needs and given the opportunity to visit the facilities.

Your Competencies

To work as an official veterinarian with us, you must hold a Swedish veterinary license or a veterinary license from another country approved by the Swedish Board of Agriculture for practice in Sweden. You must also have a B driver's license and good knowledge of Swedish in both speech and writing, as well as the ability to understand and communicate in English. Strong administrative skills are also highly valued for this position. Experience with official controls during poultry slaughter is an advantage.

As a person, we would like you to be curious and eager to experience contributing to good animal welfare and safe food. You need to be flexible, punctual, and able to make well-founded decisions and take initiative. You possess high personal maturity, with the ability to reflect on your own strengths and areas for development, and can see and contribute to the big picture. You are willing to make the necessary decisions in consultation with your colleagues and manager. The team is characterized by a strong team spirit, which offers great opportunities for development both in technical matters and from a holistic perspective.

You have good collaboration skills and thrive on building good relationships. We are interested in your knowledge and experience, which you are happy to share. At the same time, you are open to learning from others, as it is together with your colleagues that you succeed and develop. Conversations with business owners and contact with other stakeholders are also part of the work, requiring you to be clear, professional, and responsive in your communication. We will place great emphasis on your personal qualities.
