As some of our nurses are going on parental leave, leave of absence, or moving on to new assignments within Region Östergötland (RÖ), we are now looking for dedicated nurses to join our team at the surgical outpatient clinic.
What We Offer
For life forward. Region Östergötland has high ambitions and a responsible mission. It is about health and care, the development of our region, and the people who live and visit here. We want to continue to be at the forefront with care, research, and education. This means daring to think new thoughts – and having the best employees. Therefore, we offer unique opportunities for further learning and invest in modern environments with efficient systems and tools. Many of us meet patients and relatives, while others create the prerequisites for vital interventions. Here, fantastic people work towards the same goal – to make a real difference, and for life forward.
The Surgical Clinic at the University Hospital is a clinic where we work actively and successfully, for example, in opening care spots on our two wards. We have been successful in recruiting nurses, we have extensive research activities, and we are optimistic about the future. The clinic is part of the Center for Surgery, Orthopedics and Cancer Care (CKOC) and, in addition to the care wards, also has a surgical outpatient clinic and a breast section.
The surgical outpatient clinic includes the following sections: colorectal, upper abdominal, endocrine, and the emergency section. Common diagnoses and conditions include, for example, cancer in the intestines, liver, esophagus, pancreas, and endocrine organs. We also have a stoma clinic with stoma therapists, and we perform IBD surgery.
You can read about our career ladder for nurses and your benefits here. You will also find information regarding regulations concerning salaries and allowances.
Job Description
In your work, you will have contact with patients in need of surgical care. The clinic/department is divided into different sections, and there is close cooperation between the outpatient clinic staff and the surgeons in each respective section. These positions are aimed at the colorectal section and involve the care of patients with colorectal complaints and colorectal cancer. The majority of the work consists of the role of contact nurse for cancer patients, where coordination, patient support, and continuity throughout the entire process are central parts. If desired, we offer rotational assignments to the clinic's inpatient wards.
We see ourselves as a whole with different specialist areas, working together and supporting each other in daily work.
Work Group
At the surgical outpatient clinic, we are a work group that staffs several sections and the doctor's clinic. We have common premises, a lunch room, APT (likely referring to a specific internal system or meeting type, kept as is or could be 'team meetings'), and the same unit manager.
We are approximately 25 employees: nurses, nursing assistants, stoma therapists, and care administrators in the group. The outpatient clinic is also staffed by the clinic's surgeons.
You will have a clinical coach/mentor with high competence during your first year with us.
About You
We are looking for you who are a registered nurse or specialist nurse with a genuine interest in surgery and the care of patients with cancer and other surgically treated conditions. We would like you to have several years of experience in the profession and that you have worked in inpatient care for a few years. We assume that you will undertake the contact nurse education within the first few years if you do not already have it. If you wish to study further to become a specialist nurse, we work to give you the opportunity based on your prerequisites and previous experience. We want you to have at least a few years of experience from surgery in your background.
If you do not have inpatient care experience or equivalent, assignment/observation on one of our wards is included in the introduction.
As we are facing a change in the work structure on the colorectal section, you need to be prepared to take on this challenge. You are secure in your professional role and can work in a structured and systematic way. You are good at leading yourself and others and have the courage to do so. You have good communication skills with other team members. In this recruitment, great importance will be placed on personal qualities.
Application and Employment
Probation may be applied when recruiting a nurse from outside Region Östergötland. We work with continuous selection, so please send in your application as soon as possible.
Before employment in a patient-oriented role within Region Östergötland, you will be asked to fill out a health declaration.
We warmly welcome your application! If you need help registering in the system, contact Customer Service Support and Service, 010-103 60 00, during office hours.

We kindly but firmly decline direct contact with staffing, mediation, and recruitment agencies as well as other external actors and sellers of additional job advertisements. Region Östergötland has procured agreements.
