Construction Inspector at Kristinehamn Municipality

Do you have knowledge and experience within the Planning and Building Act? We at the Building Permits Unit are now looking for an engaged employee who wants to strengthen our team. One of our employees is moving on to another position, which is why we are now looking for a replacement. We warmly welcome your application!

About the Workplace

The Building Permits Unit consists of six engaged employees and is part of the Environmental and Urban Planning Administration. Currently, 28 people work at the administration, distributed across three units. We are responsible for handling building permits, environmental and health protection, as well as geodata issues in the municipality. The operations are regulated by laws and managed by a political board, the Environmental and Building Board. We are both regulatory and advisory, and we want our organization to be characterized by providing good service to those who live and work in Kristinehamn Municipality.

Kristinehamn Municipality has approximately 24,000 inhabitants and is located on the shore of Lake Vänern in Värmland. Here you will find a good business climate, a rich cultural and leisure life, as well as access to beautiful archipelago and nature.

In this position, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility of remote work to contribute to a better balance between work and leisure. Other benefits include a wellness allowance and access to our engaged staff club, which creates community and energy throughout the year. There is also the possibility of holiday exchange. You will be moving into newly inaugurated central premises where we work in an activity-based manner.

Job Responsibilities

As a Construction Inspector with us, you will have a varied and developmental assignment where you combine regulatory authority with service, advice, and community building. You work with the processing of building permit cases from start to finish, that is, reviewing and approving building permits, pre-decisions, holding technical consultations, conducting site visits, holding final consultations, and issuing start and final notices. The position includes a certain amount of supervision.

The work is carried out independently with great personal responsibility and in collaboration with your colleagues. You make decisions according to delegation.

In the role, you have many contact points and are an important representative for the municipality in the dialogue with applicants, property owners, companies, and other interested parties. You review drawings, make decisions, lead consultation meetings, and present cases before the Environmental and Building Board. You will become part of an engaged context where we value collaboration, professional treatment, and the desire to develop both the operations and our working methods.

Requirements and Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a building technology education or other relevant higher education/experience that the employer assesses as equivalent. You have good knowledge of the Planning and Building legislation, and a B-driver's license is a requirement.

We would like you to have experience of handling building permits within municipal operations.

Since you will work in close collaboration with your colleagues and also have much contact with the public and operators, we will place great emphasis on your personal qualities. You have good communication skills and are good at expressing yourself both orally and in writing. You collaborate well with others, build trusting relationships, and at the same time have the ability to work independently and systematically. You plan and prioritize your work in an effective way and contribute to development and improvement.

Employment Conditions

Type of employment: Permanent.
Duration: Permanent, Start date: 2026-10-01 or according to agreement.

If you are not a citizen of Sweden, the EU, EEA, or Switzerland and are offered employment, you must be able to prove that you have a valid work permit or are exempt from the obligation to have a work permit.
