Workplace Description
Research at the Department of Biophysical Chemistry covers studies of biomolecular interactions, structure, and dynamics, with the aim of understanding biological systems and processes at the molecular level. The focus is on experimental and theoretical studies of the physical properties of proteins in solution. The Department of Biophysical Chemistry is part of the Center for Molecular Protein Science (CMPS).
CMPS offers a highly creative environment that enables leading research. CMPS consists of research groups with expertise in a range of biochemical and biophysical methods (see: https://www.cmps.lu.se (https://www.cmps.lu.se)), thus offering an excellent environment for competence development.
The position is located in Prof. Mikael Akke's research group and is funded by the Swedish Research Council.
The Chemistry Department's NMR lab includes an 800 MHz Bruker NEO instrument with 4 channels and a 5 mm TCI Z-gradient CryoProbe with cryogenic preamplifiers for 1H, 13C, 15N, and 2H, as well as a 600 MHz Bruker Avance NEO with 4 channels and a 5 mm QCI(P) Z-gradient CryoProbe 1H-19F/13C/15N/31P. A full-time research engineer (facility manager) services the NMR lab.
Tasks and Responsibilities
You will be engaged in advanced NMR relaxation experiments and analysis of results to characterize the internal dynamics of proteins. The tasks include developing analysis programs in Python. You will work on defined sub-projects within the overarching framework of the research project. You will collaborate with PhD students, postdocs, and senior researchers.
The tasks include:
- Conducting heteronuclear NMR relaxation experiments to investigate protein dynamics
- Developing analysis programs in Python
- Analyzing and interpreting results
- Reporting
Qualifications
Requirements for the position are:
- MSc in Engineering, Master's degree, or equivalent degree
- Substantial knowledge and documented practical experience of NMR spectroscopy with a focus on protein dynamics
- Very good ability to express yourself orally and in writing in English
- Very good communication skills
- Independence and ability to collaborate
Merits for the position are:
- Flexibility and ability to quickly adapt to new tasks
Consideration will be given to how the applicant, through their experience and competence, is assessed to complement and strengthen the administrative work within the department/institution and contribute to its future development.
Other Information
The employment is fixed-term for 6 months with a workload of 100 percent, starting 2026-09-15 or as agreed.
