Your Role

As an Environmental Inspector with us, you play a significant role and form an important part of the municipality's work with supervision in the field of environmental and health protection. You contribute to promoting sustainable development in Söderhamn Municipality.

Your main task will be to exercise the authority's planned supervision according to the Environmental Code within the area of environmental and health protection. Furthermore, you will process notification cases, complaint cases, consultations, and more. You work largely under delegation but are, when necessary, preparatory and reporting for cases in the Community Service Committee. We work for a fair and legally secure assessment, which involves quality assurance work.

An important part of the role is also to be advisory and guiding. This means, for example, acting as a support for private individuals and business owners. It also involves contact with other authorities. Furthermore, you may participate in various projects driven internally or in collaboration with authorities, concerning substantive issues within environmental and health protection.

We use the case management system EDP Vision and the map system Geosecma in our daily work.

Description of the Workplace

In the coastal municipality of Söderhamn, you will find the sea, archipelago, countryside, mountains, forests, hiking trails, Hälsinge farms, World Heritage sites, a rich association life, and many leisure activities. Söderhamn is located near Gävle, Bollnäs, and Hudiksvall, and it takes approximately 2.5 hours to reach Stockholm and 1 hour to Järvsö. The Supervision and Permit Unit is organized within the Operational Urban Development activity under the Community Service sector. We are currently fifteen employees working within the authority responsible for the Environmental Code, the Planning and Building Act, and more. We now wish to fill a vacancy and are therefore looking for an additional Environmental Inspector.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a university or college education in the field of environmental and health protection, or alternatively, other education that the employer considers equivalent.

Experience is meritorious but not decisive. We would appreciate that you have previous experience of working with environmental and health protection, for example in the role of environmental inspector, case handler with a focus on the environment, from work with supervision, or from work with environmental issues as a consultant, but great importance will be placed on personal qualities.

Personal qualities that we value include, for example, that you have good judgment and take responsibility for your tasks by independently planning, organizing, and prioritizing to achieve our common goals. That you show interest in the development of the operations and quality assurance of the activities.

Furthermore, we see that you have good communication skills and are team-oriented. As a person, we want you to be attentive and accommodating in your interactions and have a good ability to adapt to the situation.

It is important that you are informative in speech and writing and that you have good knowledge of Swedish.

It is a requirement that you have a B driving license.

Probationary employment may be applicable.
