Expert in Climate and Environment (Temporary)

Boverket is the national authority for planning, building, and housing. We aim to contribute to a sustainable society with good housing in vibrant environments. Our focus lies on issues concerning the built environment, management of land and water areas, physical planning, construction and management of buildings, housing, and housing finance. Since July 2025, Boverket has also served as a preparedness authority within the preparedness sector for industry, construction, and trade.

Boverket's headquarters are located in Karlskrona, with a smaller office in Malmö. Today, approximately 250 people work at the authority, including architects, civil engineers, economists, lawyers, communicators, planners, and social scientists.

The Strategic Planning Unit brings together expertise in strategic physical planning, the planning system, and expert knowledge in areas such as climate adaptation and water. The unit works on planning issues related to built environments, infrastructure, design, climate adaptation, nature, culture, and outdoor recreation, among others. The focus is on developing guidance for municipalities and county administrative boards, disseminating information, as well as conducting investigations and handling consultations. We are now looking for a temporary expert in climate and environment.

Here, you will work to reduce environmental and climate impact when planning land and water use, balancing various interests in the development of new and existing built environments. Climate adaptation is also included, as it is a crucial foundation for built environment development. The role involves guidance work and collaboration with national authorities, county administrative boards, and municipalities. You will also follow the development of relevant EU regulations and their impact on Swedish conditions. You will independently drive work related to government assignments, investigations, consultations, etc., linked to the environment and climate, as well as related issues. You will become part of an engaged and dynamic working group within climate, environment, and nature, where work is primarily conducted in project form together with colleagues with different competencies and specialist areas. In some assignments, you will be the formal project leader leading a larger or smaller team.

At Boverket, assignments and focus areas vary over time within planning, construction, and housing. Therefore, there are great opportunities to broaden your skills in different areas. We expect our experts and specialists to contribute in several areas based on the organization's needs.

Your qualifications

We are looking for someone who has:

• at least one year of current experience working with reducing environmental and climate impact or climate adaptation in urban planning, preferably through work at an authority or municipality
• good knowledge and experience of working with Sweden's environmental quality objectives
• a suitable academic degree in the natural sciences or technical field, or other relevant higher education combined with experience in the area that the employer considers equivalent

It is meritorious if you have:

• experience working with EU issues and a good ability to follow and understand the development of EU regulations
• experience working with planning based on the Planning and Building Act

Personal qualities

Since the work often takes place in groups, it is important that you are receptive, easy to collaborate with, and can express yourself clearly and pedagogically in speech and writing in Swedish and English. You have a good holistic view and the ability to put your work into a larger context. You also have a good ability to work independently and structured to achieve set goals according to schedule. It is desirable that you have a broad network that you continuously develop. You enjoy giving oral presentations and lectures to various stakeholders, as the work involves representing Boverket in our matters. We place great importance on these personal qualities.

The position is a one-year temporary contract starting from early autumn 2026, located at the headquarters in Karlskrona. Start date by agreement.
