Do you want a workday where your contribution matters? At the National Board of Forensic Medicine (RMV), we work with everything from medical analyses and genetic investigations to psychiatric assessments. Regardless of your role, you contribute to legal certainty.

We are now looking for a forensic medicine assistant for a one-year fixed-term position at the forensic medicine unit in Linköping. The unit consists of approximately 25 people who together perform forensic autopsies and issue forensic certificates.

Your Role

As a forensic medicine assistant, your main tasks involve practically preparing for and assisting with forensic autopsies, which includes opening the body and taking samples. After the autopsy, the body is prepared for viewing and sometimes embalmed. Other common duties include assisting with dental X-ray examinations and participating in tissue donation. You will also have contact with funeral contractors and relatives in our mortuary operations, and you are expected to actively participate in our quality improvement work.

Other tasks within the scope of the unit's and department's mission may also occur.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • You must have healthcare education equivalent to an assistant nurse, or education as an autopsy technician, or other education that the employer considers equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.

Merits

  • Experience working with the deceased.
  • Good knowledge of anatomy.

Please note that requirements and any merits must be met by the last day of application.

Personal Qualities and Skills

We place great emphasis on personal suitability and teamwork, as autopsy work is largely performed in teams in a small and well-functioning workplace. The work can be challenging, both physically and mentally, as death investigations often involve difficult events, which requires an ethical approach, high personal integrity, and the ability to act steadily and professionally. Additionally, you need to have good physical fitness, be meticulous, structured, flexible, and self-initiating. Since you will communicate with the police, funeral contractors, and relatives, etc., you must be able to read, write, and speak Swedish.

The Employment

The employment is a full-time fixed-term position for one year, located at the forensic medicine unit in Linköping. The position may subsequently be advertised for an additional 1 year. Start date by agreement, preferably as soon as possible. The agency's units are located in different places in Sweden, so travel may occur during the job. The National Board of Forensic Medicine applies individual salary setting.

RMV is part of the chain of justice, and we have high demands on employees' judgment and security awareness, as well as respect for law and order. As a representative of the National Board of Forensic Medicine, you follow the government's values and contribute through your actions to legal certainty, legal security, and trust in the agency.

We conduct background checks for some of our positions by checking extracts from criminal records. In connection with employment at RMV, there may be an obligation to be placed on the war establishment. The position may be classified for security clearance, and a security investigation with register control may therefore be conducted during the employment.

We apply a competency-based recruitment process where work psychological tests, knowledge tests, or practical tests may occur. Prior to the employment of licensed healthcare personnel, checks are made with the National Board of Health and Welfare and the Inspectorate for Care and Services.
