The security situation in our immediate vicinity and in the wider world has changed, and the government has therefore decided to strengthen military capability. The importance of northern Sweden and the Arctic has been enhanced, meaning that the need for winter capability and winter training within the Swedish Armed Forces and among our partner nations has increased.

The Swedish Armed Forces Winter Unit (FMVE) is part of I 19 and has the main task of developing and coordinating winter and sub-Arctic capability across the entire Swedish Armed Forces.

About Us

The FM Winter Unit contributes to the Swedish Armed Forces' operational units being able to operate in all climate areas, especially in winter environments. The unit is located in Boden and is organized under the Norrbotten Regiment (I 19). The Education Department conducts courses throughout the year.

Main Responsibilities

Primarily, the work involves acting as a course commander or instructor at the unit's national and international courses, which means you will teach in both Swedish and English. You will participate in joint defense projects, serve as an instructor during training modules, and act as a competence support for your own and allied units. Furthermore, you will lead and participate in projects related to the sub-Arctic climate, participate in the Swedish Armed Forces' security inspections regarding cold weather, and perform other common duties.

Requirements

Qualifications

Professional officer, OR6/7, with at least 5 years of professional experience.

  • Good ability to express yourself in speech and writing, in both Swedish and English.
  • Driver's license, category B or higher.

You have a strong sense of responsibility, meaning you have the ability to work independently but also collaborate effectively with others, both within and outside the section. You should be able to carry out and evaluate the results of performed tasks and assignments within the operations. You have a high level of security awareness in your work, handle your tasks with a good holistic view, and make decisions in line with higher command's wishes. You are meticulous, have a structured approach to work, and the ability to adjust pace when necessary. You have a positive attitude towards physical training, as this is part of the duties in the Swedish Armed Forces.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Merits

  • Military driver's license/snowmobile, tracked vehicle, heavy truck with trailer, and wheel loader.
  • Very good ability to lead troop training up to platoon level.
  • Good individual skills (weapons, physical performance, FUSA/SUSA – unit training/combat training with live ammunition).
  • Mountain and/or medical instructor.
  • Experience in working in and independently driving projects.
  • Previous service at schools/centers within the Swedish Armed Forces.
  • Language skills beyond English and Swedish.
  • Good experience working in a sub-Arctic climate.
  • Good administrative skills in the Swedish Armed Forces' support systems.

Employment Type: Permanent employment. We apply a six-month probation period for those not already employed by the agency.

Employment Level: Full-time.

Work Location: Boden. Service at other locations, nationally and internationally, is included on a periodic basis.

I 19 is one of Sweden's largest regiments. The headquarters and command of the regiment are located in Boden. The regiment's most important task is to build combat units, and over the next few years, I 19 will gradually develop the new Norrbotten Brigade. By 2028, the regiment should be able to train, store, and mobilize the entire brigade, including the associated functional units. The brigade should be able to conduct combat in all environments but be specialized for combat in the sub-Arctic environment of the Arctic. The conscript training is conducted at the Norrbotten Armored Battalion, which is responsible for training and maintaining units for the Norrbotten Brigade. The regiment also consists of the regimental staff, Defense Health, Garrison Support Unit, Logistics Unit, and Local Planning Unit.
