Norrbotten Regiment, I 19, is one of Sweden's largest regiments. I 19 is responsible for producing combat units for the Norrbotten Brigade, NmekB 19. The brigade's units are specialized in sub-arctic warfare. I 19 is the lock in the North.
At I 19, the Norrbotten Armoured Battalion is responsible for daily training and the production of two armoured battalions included in the Norrbotten Brigade, with offensive combat in sub-arctic environments as their primary capability. The battalions include the latest variants of the Stridsfordon 90 (Combat Vehicle 90) and Stridsvagn 122 (Main Battle Tank 122).
FLF FIN (Forward Land Forces Finland)
From 2026, NmekB 19 will primarily focus on operating and serving with a force within the multinational force for FLF Finland. As an employee at NmekB 19 and Boden Garrison, you can become part of a historic mission for the Garrison, the Norrbotten Brigade, the Swedish Armed Forces, and Sweden within the framework of NATO.
The current planning direction is that the majority of the force contribution will be stationed in Boden and conduct operations within the framework of NmekB 19 and FLF FIN in both Sweden and Finland. The activities will include exercises, training, education, and readiness in both Sweden and Finland.

Compensation for participation in FLF FIN
- Compensation and benefits according to the Swedish Armed Forces collective agreement regarding working hours and mobility (official travel). This may change if a new agreement regarding overseas service is concluded between the parties.
- The Battalion Task Force stands in continuous operational readiness for 1–3 days during the readiness period. For operational readiness, you are compensated according to the collective agreement, currently 5,500 SEK/month.
- You are expected to complete approx. 35–40 Swedish Armed Forces days per six-month period, the majority of which will be conducted in Finland.
- Duty allowance is paid to individuals in VB-service.
Other
Employment type: Permanent employment as a continuously serving officer.
Alternatively, part-time service as a reserve officer. Within the framework of FLF Finland, there is an opportunity to serve full-time for 6–18 months. For information about your right to leave of absence, see Act (1994:2076) on protection of employment during certain service within the total defence system, etc.
Probation: The Swedish Armed Forces apply a six-month probation period for you if you are not already employed by the agency.
Work location currently: Boden for continuous service, home as a reserve officer.

War posting: The employment implies that you will be war-posted at I 19, at the combat unit you are employed with.
Working hours: Primarily daytime 07:30–16:30, but evenings, weekends, operational readiness, and Swedish Armed Forces days occur.
Salary: The Swedish Armed Forces apply individual salary setting.

I 19 is one of Sweden's largest regiments with operations in Boden, Kiruna, Tåme, and Grubbnäsudden/Lomben. The main location and command of the regiment are in Boden. The regiment's most important task is to build combat units, and in the coming years, I 19 will gradually develop the new Norrbotten Brigade. By 2028, the regiment should be able to train, store, and mobilize the entire brigade, including the associated functional units; command, field works, air defence, and logistics. The brigade should be able to conduct combat in all environments but be specialized for combat in the sub-arctic environment of the North Calotte.
The regiment also houses the Swedish Armed Forces Winter Unit, which has the task of coordinating and supporting the development of the Swedish Armed Forces' winter capability.
The conscript training is conducted at the Norrbotten Armoured Battalion, which is responsible for training and maintaining units for the Norrbotten Brigade. The regiment also consists of the regimental staff, Defence Health, Garrison Support Unit, Logistics Unit, and Local Planning Unit.
