The Faculty of Medicine is one of the largest faculties at Umeå University and attracts many students with a comprehensive range of programs in medicine, dentistry, health, and care. We offer a well-developed research infrastructure and an inspiring, dynamic environment with leading research. Our close collaboration with the four regions in the Northern Healthcare Region is seen as a significant mutual asset for developing research and education and securing the supply of future healthcare personnel.

At the Office of Medicine, there are currently just over 40 employees working with issues related to finance, HR, research, education, and communication, as well as the administration of the medical program. We are now looking for an economist to join the team working with financial and budgetary matters.

Job Description

As an economist at the office, you will be part of a group consisting of three controllers and two economists. The duties primarily include project budgeting and reporting, financial follow-up and forecasting, developing analyses/calculations, reviewing financial cases, requisitioning funds, invoicing, and developing procedures and working methods. The role also involves responsibility for supplier invoices and the review of expense reports. The work may also involve financial tasks at the faculty's departments, for example, during staff transitions.

In your role, you will act as an advisor and support to managers and financial functions within the faculty's operations. You may also present cases in the faculty's various boards, steering groups, and committees. The tasks may change over time.

You may also be included in parts of the faculty's other budgeting and forecasting work.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have at least a bachelor's degree in the field of economics or other education that the employer considers equivalent.

The job requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to structure and plan tasks. You are self-motivated, solution-oriented, and have good analytical skills. As a person, you have a good ability to see connections, create simple and clear structures, and describe them in a pedagogical manner. Since the job involves many contacts with people at different levels within the university, you need to have good collaboration skills. You have the ability to express yourself well both orally and in writing in Swedish and English. You have good computer skills and experience with computer-based administrative systems. Very good knowledge of the Office package, especially Excel, is required. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Other Desirable Qualifications

Previous experience in financial work, such as project reporting and follow-up, as well as preparing budgets and accounts, is considered meritorious for the position. Similarly, experience from similar work at universities or colleges is desirable.

Conditions

The employment is permanent, although a probationary period may apply. The position can be filled as soon as possible.
