Child Case Worker for Family Unit in Kristinehamn

Do you want to make a real difference for children and young people? With us, you will have a meaningful assignment in a dedicated and competent work group where the child's best interest is always the focus. We are now looking for a child case worker who wants to help continue developing our foster care services.

About the Department

Our administration works to strengthen people's opportunities for an independent life through support and services to children, young people, and adults, promoting adult learning, and working to ensure people become self-sufficient. The operations cover individual and family care, the labor market, integration, and adult education, organized into three processes: Self-support, A safe and healthy life, and Safe children in safe families, as well as the Navigator Center unit which serves as a unified entry point for the entire administration.

The position is located at the Family Unit within the process Safe children in safe families. Here, we work with public authority functions for children and young people, where social secretaries, child case workers, and foster care secretaries collaborate to ensure safe and good upbringing conditions for the children of Kristinehamn. The unit is led by two unit managers and supported by team leaders and social administrators.

The entire unit, along with our outpatient care and other public authority functions within the Administration, is located in our new and beautiful municipal building, in premises that promote collaboration and well-being with activity-based offices.

Responsibilities

As a child case worker, you play a central role in ensuring that the needs of placed children and young people are met and that their rights are upheld. This primarily involves placements in foster homes, but also some institutional placements. Your work is based on building trusting relationships with the child or young person, guardians, and network. You collaborate closely with foster care secretaries, who provide support and supervision to foster homes, as well as with other key actors such as schools, healthcare, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), and other parts of social services.

Through regular meetings with the child or young person, you work to ensure they are involved in their own care, understand why they are placed, and feel secure in their situation. An important part of the assignment is to promote the child's ability to maintain and develop relationships with their parents and other significant persons.

In this role, you are responsible for ongoing documentation, conducting reviews and reassessments of care, and handling investigations that arise during the placement period. You also conduct safety assessments when needs arise. All case handling is conducted according to the BBIC model, the Signs of Safety approach, and supported by the Social Services Act (SoL) and the Act with Special Provisions on the Care of Young People (LVU).

The position also includes participating in the handling of acute situations when necessary. Travel is a regular part of the job.

Qualifications

Formal Competencies:

  • Social Work degree or eligibility for social work (required)
  • Category B driver's license (required)
  • Several years of work experience from social work (meritorious)
  • Experience with public authority functions within social services work with children and young people (meritorious)
  • Knowledge and experience of the Signs of Safety approach (meritorious)

Personal Competencies:

We are looking for you who have personal maturity and a professional approach. You are confident in yourself and your professional role, emotionally stable, and able to distinguish between the personal and the professional in interactions with others. To succeed in this role, you need to be relationship-building and have an easy time creating trusting relationships through attentive, respectful, and professional treatment. We also value collaboration highly and are therefore looking for you who are a dedicated and helpful colleague who contributes to a good work environment and a strong team spirit.

You will have great opportunities to plan your own work, which requires that you can plan, structure, and drive your work forward independently. At the same time, you are flexible and have the ability to adapt to changed conditions, new needs, and unforeseen situations without losing focus on the assignment. You handle challenging situations in a calm and constructive manner.
