Höstö School – Safe to Dare

Höstö School is located in a quiet residential area near the city of Karlskrona. Approximately 170 students attend the school, and about 90 children are enrolled in the after-school center (fritids). Our vision at Höstö School is: Safe to dare – we light a spark. Our goal is to create safe children who are curious and develop their creativity to find their passion in life. We work focused on our core values: safety, responsibility, joy, development, and respect. At our school, digital tools are a natural part of daily pedagogical work.

Job Responsibilities

Our after-school center operates as a large-scale facility. We group students based on activities and interests. Our goal is to offer a safe and creative after-school environment with plenty of room for love and care. Every afternoon, pedagogically planned activities are offered. We spend time outdoors daily to provide space for play and movement, taking advantage of the treasures in the school's immediate surroundings.

We are now looking for a teacher for craft education (slöjd) and work at the after-school center. The position involves approximately 60% teaching in crafts and 40% teaching at the after-school center. This is a summer vacation cover position.

Craft Education

We are looking for someone who sees the possibilities of an integrated craft workshop and enjoys working subject-integratively with both hard and soft materials in your craft creations. Craft education at Höstö School takes place in an integrated workshop where we have created space for creation with textiles, wood, metal, color, and form coexisting side by side. This means that as a craft teacher, you teach wood and metal crafts as well as textile crafts, and guide students from idea to design process and to the finished product. We want what the students create to have a purpose and meaning. Craft teaching covers grades 3–6 and is conducted in half-class groups. There is an opportunity for joint planning with an experienced colleague who works with the same setup.

After-School Center

The position is combined with teaching at the after-school center. You will be part of the after-school center's work team. There is a need at the after-school center for a creative and hands-on person who is passionate about creation within the after-school context.

Perhaps you are a qualified and licensed after-school pedagogue/teacher who is interested in further education to gain qualifications in crafts? Or are you a craft teacher who would like to also work at the after-school center? The advantage you get is teaching in a few classes at a small school with high-quality operations. Here, you have the opportunity to grow and develop. We work systematically and evidence-based with teaching development and jointly strengthen the quality of education.

Qualifications and More Information

Qualifications: You have a teaching license with eligibility to teach crafts and/or are a qualified teacher in after-school education at the primary level. We would prefer that you have experience working as a craft teacher or as an after-school teacher.

Personal Attributes: We are looking for someone who is communicative and clear. You have the ability to listen actively to understand others' perspectives and give and receive constructive feedback. We are looking for a problem solver who can analyze situations, identify solutions, and develop effective, feasible strategies to overcome challenges. We are looking for someone who independently seeks out new challenges, makes things happen, and initiates activities and projects.

Employment Type: Permanent position (summer vacation cover).

Duration: 6 months or longer.

Start Date: 2026-08-10.

Working Hours: Daytime.
