We are now recruiting an Assistant Professor in Procedural Law to complement and develop the research and education environment at the Department of Legal Science in Kalmar. The Department of Legal Science is organizationally affiliated with the Faculty of Social Sciences and currently has approximately 15 full-time employees. At the department, we conduct research in areas such as European Law, Public Law, and Civil Law.

Subject area for the position: Legal Science

Location (permanent): Kalmar.

Since Linnaeus University is located in both Växjö and Kalmar, travel between locations may occur.

Employment extent: Full-time for 4 years.

Start date: According to agreement.

The purpose of the employment as an Assistant Professor is, according to the Higher Education Ordinance (https://www.riksdagen.se/sv/dokument-lagar/dokument/svensk-forfattningssamling/hogskoleforordning-1993100_sfs-1993-100#K4), to give the teacher the opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher and gain merit both scientifically and pedagogically to meet the requirements for eligibility for a position as a Professor. According to the Higher Education Ordinance (Chapter 4, Section 12 c), an Assistant Professor shall, upon application, be promoted to Professor if they are eligible for a position as a Professor and are assessed as suitable for such a position according to the assessment criteria relevant to the position. Such promotion entails a permanent appointment as a Professor. The application and assessment for promotion to Professor shall take place within the employment period as an Assistant Professor.

Job Description:

As an Assistant Professor in Procedural Law at the Department of Legal Science, you will have an active role in building the research environment. The employee is expected to actively participate in national and international research activities. The employee is expected to have continuous presence at the workplace. The position includes 50% teaching, preferably on the department's legal studies program, as well as the upcoming law program, which is under construction. Teaching on other courses, for example through loan to other departments, also occurs. The remaining 50% is expected to be conducted by the Assistant Professor in research within their subject, with the aim of gaining merit for promotion to Professor and possibly Docent.

Eligibility

Eligible for employment as an Assistant Professor is someone who has completed a doctoral degree in legal science/law or has equivalent scientific competence. Primarily, those who have completed a doctoral degree or reached equivalent competence no more than seven years before the time of application for the position as an Assistant Professor should be considered. However, those who have completed a doctoral degree or reached equivalent competence earlier may also be considered if there are special reasons. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, or other similar circumstances. (Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4, Section 4a).

Assessment Criteria:

The following assessment criteria should be particularly considered for an Assistant Professor according to Linnaeus University's employment regulations: scientific and pedagogical skill, international experience, experience and ability to collaborate, and experience in leadership. These assessment criteria shall be evaluated when applying for promotion to Professor.

When the university hires new teachers, applicants should be chosen who, through a qualitative holistic assessment of competence and skill, are assessed to have the best prerequisites for carrying out and developing current tasks and contributing to the successful development of the operations. Since the collegium at the Department of Legal Science is under construction, great importance is placed on the applicant having a proven good ability to collaborate, as this is significant for the successful establishment of the research and teaching environment.

For eligibility for this position, good ability to express oneself orally and in writing in Swedish and English is also required.

In the event of an application for promotion to Professor, the following assessment criteria will apply:

Guiding for the assessment of scientific skill is the independence, scope, and quality of one's own research.

Pedagogical skill shall have been demonstrated through teaching and refers to both the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of teaching, as well as supervision and examination. Pedagogical skill should show a reflective approach to student learning and to one's own role as a teacher.
