Regional Laboratory Medicine belongs to Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Area 4, and has a clear coordination mandate for the entire Region of Västra Götaland. The organization consists of the laboratory medicine activities at Södra Älvsborg Hospital, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Hospitals in the West, and NU Healthcare.

About Us

Clinical Chemistry has laboratories at both Uddevalla Hospital, which has lower volumes and focuses on elective care, and at Norra Älvsborg County Hospital (NÄL), which is an emergency hospital where the laboratory activities are largely located. NÄL serves customers in our part of the region, such as Närhälsan and private health centers, as well as many other external customers. The operation employs approximately 60 people, mostly biomedical analysts, chemists, biologists, nursing assistants, nurses, and administrative staff.

The laboratory performs nearly five million analyses per year and has a broad analysis panel that is constantly adapted to current trends and medical developments.

About the Job

Working as a nurse means you are an important part of the team working to ensure all patients receive good and safe care. As a nurse, your work content focuses on patient-proximate care.

You will primarily work with sample collection, which includes among other things:

• Performing sample collection according to current routines (blood samples, urine samples, supervised drug tests, etc.)
• Ensuring correct handling, labeling, and transport of samples
• Documenting sample collection according to current guidelines
• Informing and guiding patients before and during sample collection
• Collaborating with laboratory staff and other professional groups
• Contributing to the development and improvement of sample collection routines
• Following hygiene and safety regulations
• Participating in quality work and internal training as needed
• Unpacking samples and sorting them to the correct section

About You

You will work closely with patients and have a good manner, understanding, and interest in people. You find it easy to listen and communicate with both patients and relatives, and you always work from a patient-focused approach.

You need to have good teamwork skills. You are confident and stable in yourself and can adapt to the situation and prioritize. To thrive in the role, you need to be flexible, accustomed to taking initiative, and able to organize and plan your work independently.

You have the ability to lead, distribute, and coordinate tasks to the team based on the different competencies of the employees, according to the patient's needs.

We are looking for you who are a licensed nurse. We consider it meritorious if you have experience with sample collection.

If you are a newly graduated nurse, you will participate in the Clinical Base Year, which is our introduction program. The clinical base year is mandatory and lasts during the first year of your employment with us. It includes lectures, nursing guidance, and practical training of your profession at the Simulation Center. In addition, it includes working on at least two different wards to broaden your competence.

In the event of recruiting nurses/doctors with foreign licenses/specialist certificates, the current position will be preceded by a process to meet the requirements for Swedish license/specialist certificate.
