About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. We are the agency responsible for prisons, probation, remand prisons, and client transport.

Job Description

As a librarian at Västervik Prison, you are responsible for running and developing the library operations in close collaboration with the library assistant.

In this role, you work to make literature accessible to clients by offering book loans, handling orders, and responding to requests. This may involve meeting individual needs, such as delivering books to clients in isolation or purchasing specific titles upon request.

You receive clients during regular library visits and play an active role in stimulating reading by providing book recommendations and guidance. The client group is generally very interested in reading, which creates good opportunities to contribute to meaningful engagement and personal development through literature.

The work also includes purchasing and selecting literature, as well as monitoring developments within the library's and the agency's field. You are expected to continuously develop and refine library operations based on the clients' needs and the agency's frameworks.

Qualifications

You collaborate well with others by being attentive and communicative, and you handle any conflicts in a constructive manner. You are flexible and adapt easily when conditions change, while maintaining calm and focus even in pressured situations. In your interactions, you are service-oriented, helpful, and solution-focused. You have strong specialist competence in your field and develop it continuously, while also sharing your knowledge. With a strong sense of responsibility, you act in line with the agency's goals, decisions, and guidelines.

We are looking for someone who has:

• An academic degree in Library and Information Science or another education assessed as equivalent
• The ability to express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish

The following are also meritorious:

• Basic training from the Swedish Prison and Probation Service
• Experience leading workshops and group activities
• Security awareness and experience working in security-sensitive operations
