Sports Groundskeeper for Strängnäs Municipality

Welcome to a role where you make things work - and people thrive! We are looking for you who are handy, solution-oriented, and have a sense for service. As a sports groundskeeper with us, you are a key person in creating a safe, welcoming, and vibrant environment for everyone who moves around on our sports facilities - from school classes to club activities and fitness enthusiasts.

The Leisure Unit is part of the Technical and Service Department and is responsible for the municipality's sports grounds, sports halls, jogging tracks, and bathing areas. Right now, our new center for sports and public health is taking shape: the Larslunda Sports and Leisure Center. Here we are creating a place for movement, meetings, and community for the entire Strängnäs municipality. By autumn 2025, the swimming hall, sports hall, pump tracks, obstacle course, and playground will be ready. Additionally, we are building an enclosed multi-purpose court for spontaneous ball sports.

We are now looking for a sports groundskeeper to join our team! The sports groundskeeper will be based either at the Vasavallen and Larslunda facilities in Strängnäs, Bruksvallen in Åkers Styckebruk, or Hammaren in Mariefred. You will primarily work at Hammaren IP in Mariefred but may also need to work at one of our other facilities as needed. This is a fixed-term employment for the period 2026-09-01 to 2027-04-15.

1 position(s).

Job Responsibilities

Your tasks are varied and include, among other things:

  • Hosting, serving, and assisting clubs and other visitors who use our facilities.
  • Maintenance and upkeep of grass and artificial turf fields, ice rinks, jogging tracks, and activity areas.
  • Snow clearing and ice polishing during winter.
  • Local care, repairs, and supervision of facilities.
  • Preparing premises and setting up equipment for booked activities and events.
  • Reporting faults as well as opening and closing the facilities.

Sports groundskeeper is your title, but you are also the person many of our visitors will turn to when they have questions or need help. To thrive with us, you need to understand and appreciate this part of the role as well. Your assignment includes being a representative for the Leisure Unit, and you, together with other colleagues on site, are responsible for creating a pleasant and safe environment for all our visitors, young and old!

The work is scheduled and includes day, evening, and weekend shifts. Some administration in the business system is also involved.

Qualifications and Merits

We are looking for you who have:

  • A high school diploma, preferably with a technical focus.
  • Experience from similar work (e.g., caretaker, property technician, operations technician, or similar).
  • Previous good experience from a service profession.
  • A valid driver's license (Category B) and good driving skills.
  • Good IT skills (e.g., Office package, Teams, etc.).
  • Good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing. Knowing more languages besides Swedish is an advantage.

We also consider it an advantage if you have:

  • Previous experience with green area maintenance and/or ice hall maintenance.
  • Artificial turf training.
  • Experience operating machinery.
  • Chainsaw and/or brush cutter license.

Your Personal Qualities

Your personal qualities are important, and we will place great emphasis on them! You are a driven and confident problem solver who tackles challenges with calm and a cheerful mood. You like meeting people - and people like meeting you. Regardless of who shows up at the facility, you greet them with a smile and a helpful attitude. You are flexible, good at prioritizing when needed, and can handle rapid changes in daily life without losing focus. With your positive attitude and ability to find solutions, you will quickly become a favorite among both colleagues and visitors. You also have a natural sense of how to talk to people; you are clear and pedagogical regardless of the situation or recipient.

What We Offer

  • A varied and meaningful daily life
  • A workplace where you can contribute to public health and community
  • An engaged team and a work environment where we help each other
  • The opportunity to help shape the future sports center in Strängnäs

Since you, among other things, will work in close contact with children and young people, an extract from the police record must be presented before employment.
