Department of Clinical Sciences
We are currently seeking a clinical veterinarian with broad experience in small animal medicine and a specific interest in anesthesiology.
Your primary responsibilities will include patient care and safety in daily clinical work, as well as supervising students, particularly in the areas of anesthesia and analgesia at the University Animal Hospital (UDS). Participation in on-call and emergency services is included in the employment.
In your daily work, you will be actively engaged in the clinical education of veterinary students, interns, and residents. You will also provide support and guidance to veterinary nurses. There is an opportunity to participate in ongoing clinical research, and you may also contribute to lectures, small group teaching, and examinations of veterinary students.
An important part of the position is to provide advice to and collaborate with veterinarians in other specialties, such as critical care and internal medicine. Regular consultations with veterinarians, including referring veterinarians, are also part of the duties.
You hold a veterinary degree from Sweden, an EU/EEA country, or Switzerland, and are authorized to practice veterinary medicine in Sweden. It is an advantage if you are a licensed national specialist (Step 2) or an international specialist in the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA) or its American equivalent (ACVAA).
You have a good command of English and speak either a Scandinavian language or are willing to learn Swedish within approximately 2–3 years.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities. We value a professional approach, flexibility, teamwork, and a desire to contribute to a smooth workflow in the operating department.
The Department of Clinical Sciences is responsible for undergraduate education, research, and graduate education in anesthesiology, imaging, animal nursing, epidemiology, laboratory animal science, surgery, clinical chemistry, internal medicine, and reproduction. Our activities span all animal species across all disciplines.
At the SLU University Animal Hospital (UDS), education, research, and advanced animal healthcare go hand in hand. We train tomorrow's veterinarians and veterinary nurses and provide first-class care to companion animals, performance animals, and production animals. We also share knowledge with the general public. By combining established knowledge with the latest research findings, we are developing the future of animal healthcare.
Under one roof, we offer healthcare for horses, dogs, cats, and other small animals. In addition to modern, purpose-built facilities, we have access to advanced imaging and a veterinary medical specialist laboratory. The UDS operations also include an ambulatory unit that visits stables and farms to examine and treat horses and livestock.
