The Swedish Maritime Administration provides unique nautical competence with local ties and high availability. At the Canal Control Centre in Trollhättan, we work to increase maritime safety and accessibility for shipping, with the customer in focus, while minimizing the impact on the marine environment. We are now looking for a Canal Operator for a fixed-term contract on an as-needed basis who wants to contribute to our important work at the Canal Control Centre in Trollhättan!
Responsibilities
As a Canal Operator, you play a vital role in maintaining service and safety. Your main tasks include mooring ships in locks and guiding vessels along the Trollhätte Canal, which is physically demanding and partly heavy work. You maneuver bridges and locks and communicate with ship traffic as well as recreational boats via VHF. Reporting technical faults along the waterway is also part of the job. Furthermore, the role involves general maintenance of the area and our vehicles. During winter, tasks include snow removal, ice breaking, and de-icing of locks. You may also be trained in the two additional roles of Canal Control Centre Operator and Lock Master if needed. These tasks require precision, orderliness, and a strong understanding of the operations. You will have frequent contact via phone with your team as well as external customers. The work is performed at irregular hours, both day and night.
Who are you?
We are looking for you who have at least a high school diploma and a Category B driver's license. You are computer literate and handle various IT systems with ease. You also have good ability to express yourself well, both verbally and in writing, in both Swedish and English.
It is an advantage if you have education and/or experience in the maritime sector and hold a VHF/SRC certificate or equivalent. Education and/or experience in logistics is also considered an advantage.
We place great emphasis on your personal qualities. The role requires you to be responsible, stress-resistant, and able to prioritize even when conditions change. Since you are responsible for the operations together with a team, teamwork and a solution-oriented mindset are very important qualities.
