About us:

The Church of Sweden Jönköping, in the Diocese of Växjö, is a dynamic and growing parish that reflects the city's development and changes. With an annual population growth of nearly 2,000 residents and a municipality aiming to reach 200,000 inhabitants in the long term, our parish is in constant motion. This development affects not only our residents but also the business community, civil society, and the role of the Christian church in the city. We operate in a context where our ten churches are organized into three geographical parish areas, and we run three preschools, family counseling, dialogue, and deaconess clinics. We are present at the hospital, the university, and in the prison service, and we are constantly seeking new creative ways to be present in the city's emerging areas. The funeral service is active in four operational areas.

The Church of Sweden, Jönköping Parish – Parish Area West

In the heart of Jönköping's pulse stands Sofia Church, a cathedral-like church that buzzes with worship, music, and encounters. In the same area is also Slottskapellet, a beautiful wooden chapel primarily used for baptisms, weddings, and funerals. Together, these locations form a central hub for the parish's life. We are now looking for you who want to be a church caretaker in Jönköping Parish, Parish Area West.

You will be part of the working team for Parish Area West, which includes Sofia Church, Bymark Church, the partner church EFS Dalvik, Järstorp, and the Strandängen area. You will also collaborate closely with the other church caretakers in Jönköping Parish, and we have an ongoing collaboration with Kristine Church where you will be part of that development. Some duties will also be performed in the parish center in the city center – Sofia Garden – as well as in the various churches in the parish area.

About the position

As a church caretaker, you will have a varied, practical, and people-oriented job in two very different church environments. You are responsible for service, maintenance, and upkeep primarily in Sofia Church, but also in Slottskapellet and Sofia Garden, contributing to creating safe, dignified, and welcoming environments for everyone who visits.

The duties include, among other things:

• Maintenance, cleaning, upkeep, and care of furnishings
• Practical tasks in connection with worship services, baptisms, weddings, funerals, concerts, and other gatherings
• Sound and lighting work during worship services and music activities
• Preparing premises, furnishing, and supervision
• General hospitality and visitor service
• Collaboration with other caretakers in Jönköping Parish

You work closely and collaborate with caretaker colleagues, priests, deacons, musicians, and volunteers. You will become an important part of the joint work to develop parish life in the west.

Who are you?

We are looking for someone who:

• Has church caretaker training or other relevant competence
• Has experience or is willing to learn about worship and parish life
• Has knowledge/experience in sound, light, and technology
• Has good computer skills
• Has a valid driver's license (Category B)
• Has good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written

You enjoy working in a team but are also confident in taking individual responsibility for your tasks. You are meticulous, practically minded, and enjoy varied tasks. The work involves both visible duty during worship services, ceremonies, and music activities, as well as more independent work regarding premises and service issues.

You have a warm demeanor, a good ability to take responsibility, are flexible, and find it easy to prioritize based on the needs of the operations.
