Research Assistant in Forest Remote Sensing – Remningstorp
Sveriges LantbruksuniversitetVästerbottens län, Umeå
Previous experience is desired
Department of Forest Resource Management
Are you interested in working with unique long-term remote sensing data from forests in a leading research environment? We are looking for a Research Assistant for a one-year position focused on processing, co-registering, and extracting features from extensive sensor and field data collected at the Remningstorp test site, in close collaboration with researchers in various areas of forest remote sensing.
About the Job
The Division of Forest Remote Sensing has conducted research for over 30 years in many different remote sensing techniques and applications. Much of the research has been carried out at the super-site area in Remningstorp. This has resulted in us having access to a comprehensive amount of sensor and field data from the same area. We now see increased research opportunities that will utilize time series of data. We are therefore advertising a one-year position as a Research Assistant with the aim of processing, co-registering, and performing feature extraction from these datasets. We view this position as an opportunity for a junior person to gain experience with various sensor and field data as well as to collaborate with different researchers in various areas of forest remote sensing.
Your Background
We are looking for a person with curiosity and interest in research data, who has good communication and collaboration skills, as part of the work involves contact and communication with researchers. We place great emphasis on personal qualities.
We envision a junior candidate with a master's degree of approximately two years in a relevant subject, for example: Forestry, Environmental Science, Remote Sensing.
Merits:
- Data management
- Experience with boreal forests
- Planning and conducting field inventories
- Collection and processing of TLS, MLS, and ALS data
- Work with repeated measurements, data co-registration
- Visualization of remote sensing data
- Work with satellite data
- Cloud-based processing, e.g., Google Earth Engine
- Programming, R, Python, C++, and/or similar.
