Strängnäs Municipality's staffing unit is looking for substitutes for the summer to work in our special housing facilities (elderly homes), our home care service, and the night patrol. Working as a substitute suits you if you are perceptive, driven, and enjoy interacting with people. You are calm, and your respectful and positive attitude makes it easy for you to build good relationships with residents, relatives, and colleagues. You are flexible and appreciate a busy, varied job where every day is different.

Our residents, whether living in special housing or in their own homes, need help with daily life. This can include personal care and hygiene, cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping, or going out – all tailored to the residents' wishes.

The need for substitutes in our operations varies over time. As a substitute with us, you work on an as-needed basis with an hourly wage. The agreement covers agreed working hours and shifts. A new employment relationship begins each time you start a new shift.

WORK RESPONSIBILITIES

If you work in one of our wonderful special housing facilities, you will assist residents on-site with the support they need on a daily basis. A large part of the work is performed individually together with the resident, but you have colleagues on-site, and together you divide the tasks required during the shift.

In home care, you work with our residents in their own homes, supporting them with the tasks they have been granted. During your shift, you walk, cycle, or drive between residents' homes. You usually make these home visits alone, but you are part of a team.

Documentation is part of the job, and your working hours vary and can include days, evenings, and weekends. We are also looking for night staff for some of our units.

To be eligible for employment, you must be able to commute to and from work during evenings and weekends without always relying on local public transport. This is particularly important if you are applying for a position at one of our facilities outside central Strängnäs, such as Åkers styckebruk and Mariefred.

Working as an hourly substitute with us gives you unique experiences from different workplaces and provides opportunities to build valuable contacts for the future. It is thanks to our substitutes that our operations can remain open year-round, day and night, weekdays and weekends.

The role involves performing delegated tasks. After a certain period of employment, it is also a requirement to obtain delegation certification so that we can continue to book you for shifts.

In addition to assistant nurses and care aides, you can also work as a helper with us. A helper makes daily life slightly easier and more pleasant for the elderly through service and simple care interventions following the implementation plan.

In spring 2026, a new law comes into force meaning that work in the home for elderly people or adults with disabilities will be subject to register checks. For this position, this means that final candidates, to be considered for employment in Strängnäs Municipality, must present extracts from both the criminal record register and the suspicion register before an employment offer can be made.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for you who have:

  • Turned 18 years old (this is a requirement to work as a substitute with us).
  • Good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish.
  • Experience using IT as a support in daily life, as some documentation and scheduling is done in our systems.

To work in home care, it is also important that you can cycle.

We consider the following to be meritorious if you have/are:

  • A completed upper secondary education.
  • Education in care, especially meritorious if you are an assistant nurse with a protected professional title.
  • Previous experience working in healthcare.
  • A B driver's license and driving experience are meritorious if you wish to work in home care.

When working in home care, you need to be prepared for the possibility that pets may be present in our residents' homes.
