Licensed Nurse to Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic for Intellectual Disabilities

About the Department

Neuropsychiatry is one of five adult psychiatric departments at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. We provide specialized psychiatric care with a focus on neuropsychiatry, memory-related diseases, geriatric psychiatry, psychiatry for the deaf and hard of hearing, psychiatry for patients with eating disorders, psychiatry for patients with intellectual disabilities, and patients with Huntington's disease. Within the department, we have an active and successful research unit.

The Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic for Intellectual Disabilities is a highly specialized unit catering to patients aged 18 and over with intellectual disabilities (ID) combined with behavioral problems or psychiatric issues at a specialist care level. The catchment area is the Region of Västra Götaland and northern Halland. A research study (SweDown - West) is currently underway at the clinic, aiming to improve dementia assessments for individuals with Down syndrome.

Responsibilities

We are looking for someone who wants to work as a nurse. You will serve as a fixed care contact (FVK) for patients, meaning you will be the primary contact for the patient, their relatives, and their network at the clinic. The work involves assessing referrals, conducting initial and follow-up visits, and managing treatment contacts over time. You will plan visits and conduct follow-ups on, for example, implemented treatments and various interventions, as well as coordinate sample collection. You will make psychiatric assessments in close consultation with colleagues. The clinic also has an educational mission regarding the target group towards other actors. This includes network work around the clinic's patients, as well as pure educational and knowledge-enhancing initiatives towards neighboring healthcare providers. Counseling and mentoring of staff, as well as development work, are therefore part of the nurse's responsibilities. Duties also include participating in SIP meetings and other care meetings. We have close collaboration with actors and relatives involved in the patient's care and support.

Work at the unit is characterized by teamwork, collaborating around the patient and contributing unique professional-specific competence. The team currently consists of physicians, nurses, support pedagogues/specialist caregivers, social workers, and psychologists. The work is varied, and contact with patients and networks can take place via outpatient visits, home visits, and digital visits.

About You

We are looking for a licensed nurse. You are meticulous and structured, yet productive. You can work independently but also possess good collaborative skills. You have an interest and commitment to the patient group, put the patient at the center, and are responsive. We appreciate if you are solution-focused, flexible, used to juggling many balls, and interested in developing and improving care. Great importance will be attached to personal suitability.
