Nordic Chamber Orchestra, Principal Flute

The Nordic Chamber Orchestra, part of Scenkonst Västernorrland, is seeking a Principal Flute with some duties to play 2nd flute and subsidiary instruments for the Nordic Chamber Orchestra and the Nordic Chamber Ensemble.

Scenkonst Västernorrland includes the Nordic Chamber Orchestra, the Nordic Chamber Ensemble, and the Nordic Wind Quintet. Additionally, under the brand Musik Västernorrland, we collaborate with and support the independent music scene in the Västernorrland region.

Job Description

The position as Principal Flutist in the Nordic Chamber Orchestra is a permanent full-time job, meaning you will currently work 70% in the Nordic Chamber Orchestra and 30% in the Nordic Chamber Ensemble.

The Nordic Chamber Orchestra's wind players operate with a flexible working method where you, as Principal, have a certain obligation to rotate in agreement with the co-Principal. As Principal Flutist, you therefore have some obligation to play 2nd flute.

As a member of the Nordic Chamber Ensemble, you will participate in planning chamber music productions and perform for audiences of all ages, including children, youth, and the elderly. Therefore, strong verbal communication skills with colleagues and audiences are required. The ensemble repertoire may also include playing piccolo and/or alto flute.

The Nordic Chamber Orchestra and its ensembles are part of Musik Västernorrland’s regional music activities, which include touring in the Västernorrland region.

We are looking for a musician with higher education in music and professional-level experience in orchestral and ensemble performance.

Terms of Employment

• Permanent position with a probationary period of 6–12 months

• Position based in Sundsvall
• Evening and weekend work required

Audition

The audition will take place on June 16-17, 2026, at Musik Västernorrland’s facilities in Sundsvall. A personal invitation will be sent to the email address provided in your application no later than May 15, 2026, along with sheet music and detailed information.

A pianist will be provided for the audition. Please note that travel and accommodation expenses will not be reimbursed.
