Nordic Chamber Orchestra, part of Scenkonst Västernorrland, is seeking a Principal Flutist. The position includes a certain obligation to play 2nd flute and auxiliary instruments for the Nordic Chamber Orchestra and the Nordic Chamber Ensemble.

Scenkonst Västernorrland's music activities are conducted through its own ensembles: the Nordic Chamber Orchestra, the Nordic Chamber Ensemble, and the Nordic Wind Quintet, as well as under the brand Music Västernorrland, where we work for and with the free music scene in Västernorrland.

Job Description

As a flutist in the Nordic Chamber Orchestra, you will be employed as a full-time musician. Currently, the role involves working 70% in the Nordic Chamber Orchestra and 30% in the Nordic Chamber Ensemble.

The wind players in the Nordic Chamber Orchestra operate with a flexible working method. As a section leader, you have a certain obligation to rotate within your section according to agreements with alternating section leaders. As the Principal Flutist, this includes a certain obligation to play 2nd flute.

The repertoire for the Nordic Chamber Ensemble may include auxiliary instruments. The role also involves participating in the planning of chamber music productions and performing for children, youth, and the elderly. Therefore, we require good verbal communication skills with both colleagues and the audience.

The Nordic Chamber Orchestra and its ensembles are part of Music Västernorrland's county music activities, which entails touring within Västernorrland.

We are looking for a candidate with a higher music education and experience of orchestral and ensemble playing at a professional level.

Terms of Employment

The position is a permanent employment with a probation period of 6–12 months.

Work on evenings and weekends may occur.

Audition

The audition will take place on June 16–17, 2026 at the Nordic Chamber Orchestra's premises in Sundsvall.

A personal invitation will be sent to your provided email address no later than May 15, 2026, together with a link to the musical material and detailed information.

We will provide a pianist for the audition. Expenses for the applicant will not be reimbursed.

Mandatory Works

W.A. Mozart: Flute Concerto No. 1 in G Major. Movement 1 with cadenza and Movement 2 without cadenza. This will be supplemented by orchestral excerpts and an ensemble audition with the Chamber Ensemble.
