About Us
Clinical Genetics and Genomics at Sahlgrenska University Hospital employs approximately 130 staff members, including physicians, genetic counselors, nursing assistants, healthcare administrative personnel, and biomedical scientists.
The Center for Medical Genomics, part of the operation, performs all genetic diagnostics for acquired and hereditary cancer, prenatal diagnostics, and rare diseases. It is characterized by change management and development regarding working methods and the introduction of new knowledge. The Unit for Genetic Analysis and Bioinformatics (GAB) is part of the center, where molecular biologists, hospital geneticists, and bioinformaticians work. The demand for broad sequencing is increasing, and NGS is a technical area with a high pace of development.

We offer you an exciting and developmental role with a focus on processing and interpreting advanced genetic data within an operation characterized by rapid technical development.
Responsibilities
Following introduction and training, you will interpret and respond to genetic analyses, responsible for ensuring the correct analysis is performed in a patient-safe manner. You will work with advanced genetic analyses within the area of solid tumors. You will collaborate with, for example, physicians, bioinformaticians, and hospital geneticists, and be responsible for the development and implementation of new methods in clinical genetic laboratory diagnostics, sometimes in connection with Genomic Medicine Sweden. As part of your position, you will undergo training to become a hospital geneticist.
As a hospital geneticist, you also have responsibility for education and mentoring. You play a central role regarding internal and external communication and continuously seek improved working methods, both concerning new technology/methodology and the processes following medical needs.
About You
We are looking for someone with an MSc or Master of Science degree in biochemistry/biotechnology, molecular biology, genetics, or equivalent. You have several years of research or work experience in tumor genetics and NGS, which includes handling large-scale data with some experience in interpreting and assessing genetic variants, as well as processing genetic data, documentation, and method development.
It is an asset if you have a PhD in a relevant subject such as cancer genetics, biochemistry, or biology, with experience of clinical research, laboratory operations, and/or bioinformatics.
We are looking for someone who is responsible and analytical with good collaboration skills and a commitment to development. High demands are placed on accuracy as the laboratory is accredited. The operation is based on a matrix organization where responsiveness and flexibility are important qualities when meeting varying questions, complex analyses, and an operation in change. Great importance will be attached to personal qualities, and you must master Swedish in speech and writing.
