Program Leaders for Probation Service Sundsvall
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transport.
The northern Norrland probation service covers Västernorrland, Västerbotten, and Norrbotten counties and has staffed offices in Luleå, Gällivare, Umeå, and Sundsvall. The probation service conducts personal investigations and supervises clients who are conditionally released, under probation, sentenced to community service, or monitored with electronic tags/intensive supervision. The probation service also works with various treatment programs, in Umeå and Sundsvall also on-site at nearby prisons. Approximately 180 employees and 10 managers work within the northern Norrland probation service to reduce clients' recidivism and thereby increase safety in society.

We also have a staffed visitor office in Härnösand several days a week, which provides residents in the area with good opportunities to work from there.
We are now looking for three program leaders for the Probation Service Sundsvall. The employment begins with a local introduction at the workplace, followed by program leader training.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
As a program leader, you will be part of a team working with clients in probation and prison. As an important part of the work to prevent recidivism, the probation service in Sundsvall conducts extensive program activities for clients under supervision, both in groups and individually.
The treatment programs are conducted with high quality and according to the principles of evidence-based practice. They are primarily based on cognitive behavioral therapy and social learning theory. We use programs addressing crime, violence, substance abuse, as well as sexual and relationship violence. The assignment is carried out by a highly committed program team with special program leader competence. The combined program offering means that you will simultaneously lead several different programs, primarily in groups at probation and prison.
In the role of program leader, you will largely be conducting programs as well as some administration. You are expected to complete the program leader training included in the assignment as well as the probation service's basic training. It is important to actively work for good collaboration both with other program leaders and with other colleagues in prisons and probation.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for someone who is calm and controlled even in demanding situations. You are secure, stable, and have good self-awareness. You will work in a complex and demanding environment, which means you need to have a good ability for self-control, boundary setting, and emotional stability. Since you will be working in a team and with group programs, good collaboration skills are required. In your work, you are meticulous and make correct assessments, priorities, and have the ability to make considered decisions. You have a good understanding of how people absorb knowledge and adapt your way of conveying messages based on the recipient's conditions. You communicate clearly and ensure that the message gets through. You understand the importance of a good safety culture and actively contribute to the safety of the client, colleagues, and yourself. You must also have a physique that enables you to act physically if the situation requires it.
For us, it is important that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and belief in the human will and ability to develop. You have a strong motivation to contribute to a safer society and reduce recidivism. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. Furthermore, you are expected to contribute to ensuring that everyone is treated equally through your approach. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
We are looking for someone who has:
- A university degree (at least a bachelor's level) in behavioral sciences, preferably as a behavioral scientist, social worker, criminologist, or within social sciences.
- A valid driver's license (the job involves travel within and outside Sundsvall).
