The City Environment Administration is part of the urban development administrations in Gothenburg. Together, we work to create conditions for a functioning infrastructure, quality housing and premises, an inviting public environment, and strive for the city to be sustainable from all perspectives.

Job Responsibilities

Do you want to contribute to the work in one of Sweden's largest, oldest, and very popular parks? We are now looking for two substitutes for Slottsskogen's zoo.

Slottsskogen is one of Sweden's largest tourist attractions with approximately 4.5 million visitors annually. The park, including the zoo, is part of Gothenburg's and Sweden's green history and is proposed to become a cultural reserve. We are now looking for an experienced animal caretaker to join our dedicated and competent team.

Focusing on Nordic animals, Slottsskogen's zoo works with its three core missions: conservation, education, and research. The animals are the foundation of all activities in the zoo, and the welfare of the animals is always prioritized. The work as an animal caretaker involves standard tasks related to animal husbandry such as feeding, maintenance work, and it is important to be meticulous and infection control-oriented. Hygiene and cleanliness of enclosures are very important tasks. Tractor driving is also involved. We are looking for someone with a passionate interest in animal welfare and the ability to mentor students, as this is part of the animal caretaker's daily routine. A very important part of the work as an animal caretaker is also to communicate with our visitors to increase knowledge about animals and nature and understanding of the importance of biodiversity. This occurs through spontaneous meetings with visitors, daily information sessions, school lessons, and events for the public. As an animal caretaker in the park, you are expected to actively participate in evaluating and developing animal husbandry. The work can be both mentally and physically demanding, with tough decisions and heavy lifting that require a high work pace and, to some extent, solitary work. It is an advantage if you have experience leading groups, as one of the tasks may be to hold lessons.

At the workplace, there are also functions that work with the management, maintenance, and development of the park, such as strategic managers, maintenance technicians, planning leaders, and operational coordinators. Together with the staff in the zoo, they will be your closest colleagues.

The work involves weekend shifts and will include on-call duty, which means you must be able to reach the workplace within 40 minutes.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a high school animal care education, along with several years of experience working as an animal caretaker. Previous experience in a zoo is an advantage. Training in GKLH is a requirement. We prefer that you have an extended driver's license, B96, and training as a transporter of zoo animals is advantageous.

To succeed in the role of animal caretaker at Slottsskogen's zoo, you must be able to work independently, be proactive, meticulous, responsible, and pedagogical. You actively contribute to a positive work culture. The work is performed among visitors, both children and adults, and we see that you are an open, verbal, and social person. You are comfortable speaking in public and enjoy working with both animals and people. A manual driver's license (B) is required, and if you have experience driving a tractor, it is an advantage.

Selection will take place continuously, so please submit your application as soon as possible, but no later than 20260419.

In this recruitment, the first step will be group interviews. We plan these for April 27 and 28.

Welcome with your application!
