Elder Care Unit

Our 1800 employees work with close care and health in Uppsala County. We have a wide range of services within primary care. Our patients meet us at Region Uppsala's own health centers or within habilitation, and we provide advice over the phone via 1177. Education, research, and development are important to us, as we adapt our services based on the needs of the residents. We already offer mobile teams, video visits, and smart e-services.

Do you want to work to improve the daily lives of our elderly? The Elder Care Unit is expanding, and we are looking for you who are a specialist in general medicine or geriatrics. You should have a desire to help develop the Elder Care Unit throughout Uppsala County together with us. We offer permanent full-time employment, but the working hours can be discussed based on the applicant's wishes.

You will have great opportunities to organize your workday based on the needs of your listed patients together with your colleagues. There may be opportunities to work remotely to some extent.

Your Mission

The Elder Care Unit has developed a unique way of working with elderly patients who need medical care at home in collaboration with home healthcare. You will have about 60-70 listed patients if you work full-time. The focus is on frequent patient contacts in the patients' own homes. By conducting all visits at home, we create security for the elderly and it becomes easier to get a picture of the patient's medical needs. At the Elder Care Unit, you have the opportunity to dedicate the necessary time to your patients and you follow your patients over time, which ensures good quality and continuity.

In your clinical everyday life, there is always time to consult with specialists at the Academic Hospital if such a need arises. Our working method is based on close cooperation with the municipalities' home healthcare, including joint rounds, home visits, and contact by phone as well as through data systems. As a physician at the Elder Care Unit, you work with both assessment and treatment. You are part of a team with doctors, pharmacists, speech therapists, dietitians, social workers, and medical secretaries. Considering the patient's needs, you have great opportunities to plan your time to suit both you and your patients.

Your Competence

We are looking for someone who is a specialist in general medicine or geriatrics. You need to have a strong interest in working with elderly patients. You have a flexible working style and good ability to collaborate with others in the team, while also having the experience and drive to work independently. We place great importance on personal qualities. A valid driver's license and good driving experience are required.

Our Operations

The Elder Care Unit is a medical resource for elderly individuals in Uppsala County who need medical care at home. The operations are conducted as a collaboration between Region Uppsala and home healthcare in the municipalities of Uppsala County. We receive our patients via referrals from health centers or from the municipalities' home healthcare. We conduct both urgent and planned visits at our patients' homes and have close cooperation with the home healthcare nurses.
