Customs Authority is Hiring Observers for the Customs Crime Department

The Customs Authority's crime prevention unit is tasked with stopping or seriously disrupting organized crime and preventing the illegal importation of narcotics and doping agents, alcohol, tobacco, weapons, and other goods that threaten life, health, and the environment.

The crime prevention work spans the entire chain from intelligence, analysis, and control to completed preliminary investigations, and the work is carried out in three departments: Control, Intelligence, and Customs Crime Department.

Your workplace will be at the Customs Crime Department, Northern Unit, Umeå.

About the Position

The Customs Authority is seeking observers to perform targeted surveillance work within the Customs Authority's customs crime operations, primarily in cases aimed at large-scale smuggling and organized crime. The work also includes the enforcement of coercive measures and some criminal investigation work. All positions within the surveillance operations involve shift work and often require domestic travel with overnight stays in other locations and sometimes even international travel. Personnel assigned to surveillance operations are equipped with service weapons, for which training is required.

Are You the One We Are Looking For?

We are looking for someone who has:

• Completed training within the Customs Authority, or other training in crime prevention that the Customs Authority deems relevant
• Completed and approved weapon training (pistol)
• Completed and approved conflict management training including communication, self-defense, OC spray, and baton training
• Experience from work in crime prevention operations
• Good ability to communicate and express yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish and English
• Swedish driver's license, class B for passenger cars with manual transmission and good driving experience
• Computer skills and the ability to independently use basic computer programs in the Office suite to report, document, and present
• Swedish citizenship

It is advantageous if you have:

• Completed and approved surveillance training
• Experience working with surveillance within crime prevention authorities

As an observer, you will work in a smaller group, so it is important that you are genuinely interested in working in a team and developing together with other team members. You should also have the ability to work independently. You can handle working under stressful conditions where you need to make quick decisions with good judgment. The role of an observer also requires flexibility and initiative, as well as an interest in technical tools.

The operations are diverse, which places high demands on you to be prepared to perform both routine work and more qualified tasks. The operations are in constant development, and improvement work is part of everyday life.
