Our Operations

Clinical Immunology and Transfusion Medicine is a section at the Academic Laboratory that provides round-the-clock laboratory service and medical expertise for blood transfusions and cell therapy as well as preparations for organ transplants. We conduct research and development in collaboration with Uppsala University. Our operations consist of two specialties: Clinical Immunology (autoimmunity and allergy and cellular immunology) and Transfusion Medicine (hemotherapy including blood donation and immunohematology).

Within the section, the following is conducted:

  • Selection and care of blood donors
  • Production and control of blood components, blood stem cells, and Langerhans islet cells for transplantation
  • Investigative work and laboratory investigations prior to blood transfusion, organ, tissue, and cell transplantation
  • Autoimmune diagnostics, allergy investigations, and investigations regarding immune deficiencies
  • Patient treatments using apheresis techniques

In transfusion medicine, we have a regional collaboration where Region Uppsala provides medical expertise to transfusion medicine laboratories in the regions of Gävleborg, Dalarna, and Västmanland.

Your Mission

Together with our regional coordinators and employees within each laboratory, you will develop the transfusion medicine operations within the regions of Västmanland, Dalarna, and Gävleborg. You will have your full-time employment at KITM at Uppsala University Hospital and serve as a regional physician in the respective region with medical responsibility and expert status after approval by the respective authority. As a regional physician, you will visit the transfusion medicine operations within the regions and work for good collaboration. You will assist the regional coordinators in ensuring that the region's employees are offered training by organizing courses, study visits, and on-site training. In connection with inspections from authorities and accreditation bodies of the region's laboratories, you will be a natural participant. You will participate in the implementation of transfusion medicine methods and work during procurements.

We Are Looking For You

We are looking for someone who is passionate about education and development in transfusion medicine. You thrive in a varied job where you meet people and represent coordination and transfusion medicine expertise within the healthcare region. You also understand the importance of quality and what it means for an accredited operation. The work requires good communication skills, and you can express yourself well in both Swedish and English, both spoken and written. You also have good computer skills as administration is conducted using digital tools. Great emphasis is placed on personal qualities.

We are looking for a licensed physician with specialist competence in clinical immunology and transfusion medicine and at least 2 years of experience as a specialist physician. You have documented medical knowledge and skill as well as teaching experience, and you have contributed to the development in the field. Ongoing research in the specialist area is meritorious. Expert assessment will be conducted regarding whether the applicant meets Uppsala University Hospital's merit requirements for senior physician/assistant senior physician or specialist physician.

We Offer

You will be offered a permanent full-time position with a start date according to agreement. A probationary period may apply. The work is conducted during the day. You will have your employment at Uppsala University Hospital, and travel within the regions including overnight stays is included in the position.

To ensure you have a good understanding of our existing methods and working practices, you will initially work at Clinical Immunology and Transfusion Medicine at Uppsala University. After that, you will continue to work at least 20% in Uppsala to maintain knowledge of methods and work routines.
