Officer without prior officer training
If you have an academic degree and meet the qualifications below, you can be employed as an officer without first completing officer training. The position includes up to 25 months of studies, Special Officer Training (SOFU), with salary. You will study partly alongside cadets in the FHS Officer Program and at the Naval Warfare School in Karlskrona. After your studies, you will begin your service on one of the navy's ships or in the navy's land-based organization.
Recruiting Units
For the 2027 training start of the special officer training, three naval units are recruiting new employees. Each unit is looking for different competencies and educational backgrounds among prospective officers for their operations:
First Submarine Flotilla
The First Submarine Flotilla is an operational unit and strategic resource for the Armed Forces, primarily operating at sea. The unit's main tasks are intelligence gathering, maritime control, diving, submarine rescue, and special operations. The unit is primarily looking for you who want to work as a professional officer in the following areas:
- Navigation and combat management as well as ship technology

Naval Base (MarinB)
The task of the Naval Base is to ensure operational sustainability for the naval units, among other things through protected logistics supply to land and at sea. This is done through the Naval Base's two wartime units: Naval Military Base Karlskrona and the 1st Naval Base Battalion. With high competence and qualified material, supplies, workshop maintenance, and medical care are delivered. All operations are protected by the unit's security and escort soldiers.
The unit is primarily looking for you who have an educational background in the following areas:
- Technology, logistics, nautical

Naval Staff (MS)
The Naval Staff leads the naval units and has operational activities in Muskö, Karlskrona, and Gothenburg. The unit is primarily looking for you who want to work in a staff position and who have relevant academic or professional competence in the following areas:
- Cyber, economic and operational management, command systems, material processes, or intelligence and security.

Qualifications
- Academic degree of at least 180 credits from a university or college, including a written thesis of at least 15 credits. Foreign degrees must be validated by UHR.
- Your values align with the Armed Forces' core values and code of conduct.
Meritorious
- Experience in the Armed Forces, preferably from the organizational unit you are applying to.
- Leadership experience from professional life or volunteer work.
- Education in nautical
- Education: Naval Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Engineer, Mechanical Technology
- Completed military service or equivalent training with a passing result.
- Completed group leader training in the Armed Forces with a passing result.
- Seafaring experience
Personal qualities
You are a person who takes responsibility, seeks and drives your tasks, is open to change, and supports where needed. The work requires very good stress resistance and collaboration skills. You have the ability to prioritize, are flexible, and see the entire Armed Forces as your workplace in a future officer career. Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities.

The recruitment process includes, among other things, an assessment by the National Service and Assessment Agency conducted in Stockholm or Malmö. During this assessment, you will undergo various types of physical tests as well as an interview with a psychologist and a doctor. If you proceed in the recruitment process, you will conduct interviews and security assessments at the recruiting organizational unit. Additional physical tests may be conducted by the recruiting organizational unit. The Armed Forces apply positive discrimination for underrepresented genders. The employment form is permanent employment with a 6-month probationary period.

Information about the Armed Forces and the recruiting unit:
The Armed Forces is undergoing extensive development work to build a stronger defense against the backdrop of a deteriorating security situation and a new defense political direction focusing on national defense. Leadership for a stronger defense aims to increase robustness, simplify command and obedience relationships, and through decentralization of mandates and responsibilities, increase the conditions for mission tactics.
As part of this work, the Armed Forces has organized a Naval Staff for the leadership of the Naval units. The Naval Staff is established in Muskö in Haninge municipality.

Employment with us means placement in a security class. Usually, Swedish citizenship is required. Security screening with a background check will be conducted prior to employment according to Chapter 3 of the Security Protection Act. Employment also includes an obligation to be placed in wartime. The implications of this vary depending on the type of position.
