Operations Manager for the Naval Band

Försvarsmusiken is the Swedish Armed Forces' function for military music. Försvarsmusiken will celebrate its 500th anniversary in 2026 and has played a significant role in the Armed Forces and Swedish music life over the centuries.

The Armed Forces have 28 bands consisting of the professional bands of Försvarsmusiken: the Army Band, the Life Guards' Dragon Band, and the Naval Band, the Defense Field Artists' wartime organization, and the Home Guard's 25 bands. Additionally, the contracted bands of the Air Force Band and the Gotland Band are engaged.

Every year, Försvarsmusiken conducts over 1,200 musical performances through participation in state ceremonies, unit performances, public concerts, and tours - nationally and internationally. This occurs within the state ceremonial area, at unit ceremonies and concerts, through public concerts and tours, in Sweden and internationally, primarily within the alliance.

The Naval Band is a ceremonial band for parades and ceremonies as well as a symphonic wind orchestra with a broad repertoire. The band consists of approximately 30 musicians with a leadership and administration team of about seven people. The Naval Band is based in Karlskrona.

We are looking for someone with good experience in planning, leading, and following up on operations under changing conditions.

You should be flexible in your leadership and have an open and creative mind. You should have experience from workplaces with various personnel categories, both civilian and military, specialists and generalists, and have a well-developed ability to delegate since the band solves its assignments individually. • The work takes place in several locations with irregular working hours and in changing conditions and environments both indoors and outdoors, in Sweden and abroad.
  • Responsible for the work environment at your own unit according to delegation.
  • Prepared to participate in special work and project groups within Försvarsmusiken.

Qualifications

Furthermore, you have good adaptability and plan and organize your work in a proactive and realistic way. As the band leader, you have many contacts, and the role therefore requires very good social competence.
