Swedish Prison and Probation Service is Growing – Summer Interns Wanted!

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is expanding – we are building new facilities, renovating, and seeking more employees. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand, and client transport.

The Helsingborg area consists of Helsingborg Remand Prison and Berga Remand Prison. Helsingborg Remand Prison primarily receives inmates with restrictions, while Berga Remand Prison mainly receives inmates without restrictions.

We are now looking for the last summer interns for the summer of 2026!

JOB DESCRIPTION

Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop. This is a summer job that provides you with lifelong experience.

Work at the remand prison is often governed by routines and focused on care and security tasks. Our inmates may be detained for long periods without meeting anyone other than their lawyer and the prison staff. This places special demands on you as a correctional officer.

This job is for those seeking a varied security role. Together with your colleagues, you will conduct daily operations. Tasks include monitoring, meal distribution, and searches, combined with isolation-breaking measures such as daily contact/conversations and motivational work with our inmates. Since some documentation is involved, it is important that you can express yourself well in writing.

You need to have good self-awareness, integrity, be stable, able to apply clear communication, and share the values of the correctional service. The work may require you to intervene physically if the situation demands it to protect yourself, a colleague, or an inmate.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service operates around the clock, year-round. You will work days, evenings, and weekends. Some schedules include night work.

QUALIFICATIONS

You should have:

• Work experience, including seasonal work, hourly employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
• Completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience deemed relevant by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form.
• Good computer skills.

It is advantageous if you have:

• A valid driver's license, preferably for a manual vehicle.
• Work experience in correctional services, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and social care.
• Knowledge in relevant fields, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
• Relevant language skills.

Keep in mind that this is a summer temporary position. Leave during the summer is granted restrictively!

Introduction will take place in weeks 18-19, 23-24, or 24-25.
