The educational administration has implemented an initiative for school libraries during 2025-26 to increase students' access to librarian competence, equity, and reading promotion efforts.

We are now looking for a School Librarian who wants to help develop the school library services in Kalmar Municipality. The School Librarian will be responsible for the school libraries at the following primary schools:

• Falkenberg School grades F-9
• Kalmarsund School grades F-6
• Vasa School grades F-6

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

We work to ensure that the school library has a clear pedagogical function, whose primary task is to collaborate with educators to strengthen students' language skills and digital competence and create a library for all.

You will work on developing students' media and information literacy and digital competence, as well as enhancing their reading engagement and reading ability. You will promote reading both in collaboration with school staff and independently with students and classes. You will plan and conduct teaching and guide students both in the library and in classrooms. You will take an active part in the systematic quality work of the school area regarding, among other things, strengthening students' language competence.

You will be responsible for the school library room and work to ensure that the library is a learning environment that is socially, pedagogically, and physically accessible. You will ensure that the school library is an active part of the school's value foundation work and democratic mission. Your tasks will include media planning and purchasing, circulation, and media management. You are expected to participate in professional development initiatives aimed at developing school library services. Together with librarian colleagues, you will be part of a network for collegial learning.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who primarily has a degree in library and information science or alternatively another relevant academic degree. A few years of experience in school library work is advantageous.

To fit this role, you need to have a strong commitment to children and young people and their learning. You also have a strong ambition to translate research and in-depth subject knowledge into effective school library practice in collaboration with school staff at the three relevant schools.

We are looking for someone who has a good ability to work collaboratively with others and build good relationships with both students and colleagues. You create conditions for learning to take place and encourage dialogue, participation, and engagement. You also take initiative and responsibility for moving work forward, whether you are working alone or with others. You contribute new ideas and perspectives and often see more than one possible solution in various situations.
