Museum Coordinator for New Football Museum in Avesta

There is something special about Avesta! Here, you will find not only Dala horses and rushing rivers but also will and courage, proactivity, and faith in the future. It is the power of the people that makes Avesta unique. Together, we are building the future of Avesta – do you want to be a part of it?

The municipality of Avesta is establishing a new museum with football as a starting point for stories about people, society, and contemporary issues.

We are now looking for a museum coordinator who wants to help build an organization from the ground up, focusing on public meetings, experiences, and long-term relationships. The museum will not only showcase a unique collection but also create a narrative world where identity, community, class, migration, and dreams become visible through the lens of football.

We are looking for someone who wants to help shape a place that engages, touches, and resonates, driven by the desire to develop meaningful experiences in collaboration with the audience, associations, and society.

Together with the cultural manager, operational leader, and external producer, you will be responsible for the production, establishment, and development of the museum from a visitor and experience perspective. The role includes the development of program activities, public content, and the overall visitor experience. You are highly skilled at creating and deepening relationships with various target groups and partners, and you have the ability to adapt public experiences, programs, and content based on different needs and contexts. The assignment includes preparing decision-making materials for the operational leader and cultural manager and ensuring consensus on planning, scheduling, and staffing through regular check-ins.

During the production phase, you will build close and long-term relationships with the audience, associations, businesses, and civil society, develop concepts for programs and events, and be a key person in contact with external exhibition producers. You will be responsible for coordinating processes, following up on implementation, and ensuring structure in the production. The role also includes creating and publishing content for the web and social media.

When the museum opens in June 2027, the focus will shift to planning and implementing programs, further developing the visitor experience, and ongoing content production. You will have a particular responsibility for logistics regarding group visits, bookings, and public events, as well as collaboration with educators and external actors. The role also includes actively working with daily operations alongside museum hosts, such as keeping the museum open, staffing the shop and entrance, and welcoming visitor groups. Leadership in specific projects may occur.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Production of permanent or temporary exhibitions
  • Experience working within public or municipal organizations
  • Cross-professional work between content, design, technology, and operations

  • Knowledge of film production for web and social media

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

You are driven to create public meetings that engage, touch, and build long-term relationships between people, stories, culture, and place. Developing meaningful cultural experiences for different target groups is a central part of your professional identity. You see the museum as an active community actor and culture as a force for knowledge, context, community, and reflection in a changing time.

You have a strong and genuine interest in museum communication and the role of culture and museums in society. You understand how stories, program activities, and experience design can contribute to education, participation, and dialogue – and how culture can create both recognition and new perspectives.

As a person, you are secure and stable with good self-awareness. You are relationship-building and communicative and thrive in collaboration with various target groups, professions, and actors within the cultural life, associations, and civil society. You work in a structured manner, plan and prioritize effectively, and can manage complex processes even during intense phases. At the same time, you are creative and development-oriented, with the ability to translate ideas into practice. You think strategically, have a holistic view, and act with the long-term best interests of the organization in focus.

A strong interest in football as a cultural, social, and identity phenomenon is desirable and enhances the assignment.
