School Librarian in Älvsbyn Municipality

In this cross-municipal assignment, you will meet students from preschool to high school at the various school units in the central town, as well as Vistträskskolan. The goal is for the school library to have a clear pedagogical function where the main task is to, in collaboration with educators and the municipal library, contribute to promoting students' reading and strengthening their media and information literacy. A central part of the assignment is to create a school library for everyone. The focus of the activities is on increasing students' goal achievement, well-being, and identity creation by integrating the school library as a natural part of the teaching.

Job Responsibilities

As a school librarian, you are responsible for ensuring that the school library is a learning environment that is socially, pedagogically, and physically accessible.

Your main responsibilities include:

  • Working to strengthen students' reading engagement and reading skills through reading promotion and language development methods and activities, both independently and in collaboration with school staff.
  • Developing ways to strengthen students' media and information literacy as well as digital competence.
  • Planning and conducting teaching and guiding students in both the library and classroom.
  • Contributing to ensuring that the school library is an active part of the school's value-based work and democratic mission.
  • Being responsible for purchases, media management, circulation, and book administration.
  • Leading book discussions, working with classes, and conducting library breaks in schools.

You are also expected to participate in professional development initiatives aimed at further developing school library operations.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a university degree in library and information science, or equivalent education deemed relevant by the employer. You have good digital competence and a strong interest in children's and youth literature.

To thrive in this role, you need to have a genuine commitment to children's and young people's learning. You have the ambition to translate research and in-depth subject knowledge into a well-functioning school library practice.

We are looking for someone with a good ability to collaborate and create positive relationships with both students and colleagues. You create good conditions for learning and encourage dialogue, participation, and engagement. You take initiative, drive the work forward, and contribute new ideas and perspectives. You often see several possible solutions in different situations.

A valid B driver's license is required.

We offer a permanent position at 100% with a start date according to agreement. The position will be filled subject to the necessary decisions being made.
