Do you want to be part of Piteå's new school library organization?

We are looking for two dedicated school librarians who want to contribute to students' love for reading, learning, and digital competence – in a strong team that develops the libraries of the future.

Do you want to spark a love for reading and curiosity in young people? Do you want to contribute to a place where students can grow, discover, and think critically? Then this could be the role for you.

In Piteå municipality, we work together to ensure that Piteå remains a place easy to love – and schools and school libraries play an important role in this.

We are now complementing our new school library organization with two positions. We are looking for someone who wants to promote students' reading and media and communication skills. You will be part of a new school library organization, where you and your colleagues will help shape the mission from the ground up.

The librarians have a common manager and work in teams, each responsible for one or several schools. The role also involves collaboration with the municipality's public libraries, city library, and book bus. Collaboration may include shared use of premises and collections as well as joint planning of promotional activities.

In the municipality's various schools, the school library solutions vary greatly, ranging from small and spartan libraries to well-equipped and well-funded ones.

We plan for you to be responsible for one of the following areas

  • Christinaskolan f-6, Christinaskolan 7-9, Christinaskolan Adapted Primary School
  • Hortlaxskolan 7-9, Norrbyskolan f-6, Jävre School f-6, Bergsviksskolan f-6

Your role

The mission includes reading promotion activities, media and information literacy (MIK)/source criticism, collection development, and pedagogical collaboration.

As a school librarian, you make the library a place where students develop language, imagination, and critical thinking, regardless of the local conditions of the school library. You spark a love for reading, guide in information retrieval, and ensure that the offerings are varied, inclusive, and accessible to all. Your tasks also include media planning and purchasing, circulation, and media management.

You promote multilingualism, create an inspiring environment, and collaborate with teachers to make the library a natural part of education.

The work is independent and proactive but takes place in close collaboration with teachers, library staff, and your own school library team. You take initiative, share ideas, and contribute in all these contexts.

Your qualifications and experience

We are looking for someone with a degree in library and information science. Experience in library work, especially with children and youth, is an advantage.

You are a good communicator in Swedish, both spoken and written, and have the ability to make complex issues understandable and inspiring. You meet students with warmth, respect, and engagement.

To thrive in this role, you need to be structured, self-driven, and confident in making decisions.

Your digital competence is important – you see how the library's resources can strengthen education and spark curiosity, and you can educate students in media and information literacy. Inspiring reading is a natural part of the mission for you.
