The Role of the Nurse

As a nurse in the emergency department, you work with acutely ill patients of varying ages and with different medical, surgical, or orthopedic conditions. We work in multiprofessional teams where we take care of our patients together. You prioritize, assess, and treat patients based on your profession and in collaboration with other team members. Since we want the patient to be involved in their care, providing information to the patient and contacting their relatives is also an important part of your work. With us, you will work as a new nurse during days, evenings, and weekends.

Your Future Workplace

The emergency department at Värnamo Hospital handles acute illnesses and accidents that cannot be managed within primary care. We are open around the clock, every day of the year. Patients come to us by self-referral, being referred by various healthcare providers such as health centers, clinics, 1177, or by ambulance. We have around 50 staff members besides the doctors who staff the various on-call lines. We are a well-functioning emergency department, even by national standards. For several years, we have been in the top three among the country's emergency departments regarding the time patients spend in the emergency department. Our goal is for patients to be fully treated in the emergency department within 4 hours of arrival. Right now, we are the emergency department in Sweden with the fastest processing times. We place great emphasis on continuously improving flow and providing good and safe care to our patients.

Your Profile

We are looking for you who are a licensed nurse or graduating in June 2026. To have the best possible summer planning, we appreciate if you can work six consecutive weeks during the summer. Introduction will take place in addition to these weeks.

You thrive in a workplace where you have the opportunity to work with mixed tasks at a varied pace. It is important that you are a flexible person with a pleasant demeanor. As a staff member in the emergency department, you work independently with great personal responsibility but, as a newcomer, of course, with support from experienced colleagues. For you to succeed and thrive in your new role, we also see that you are stable and controlled in stressful situations and have the ability to remain calm in acute situations. We place great importance on good collaboration skills and personal suitability.

It is not always easy to be new at work, and therefore we do our utmost to ensure that you feel safe and well-prepared for your summer job with us. Before you start working in the department, you will receive thorough training based on your needs and experiences. We offer two introductory days to all our summer employees where we go through the most relevant information about emergency care.
