Summer Temporary Positions at the City Library and Local Libraries in Umeå

Umeå is known for its creative climate with a rich, inspiring cultural life of national significance. When a Swedish city was to be designated as the European Capital of Culture in 2014, the choice fell on Umeå. Here you can find an opera house, four appreciated museums, influential festivals, a world-class sculpture park, art galleries, a European film festival, and music, dance, and theater groups for all ages.

Umeå Kultur operates the city library in the cultural house Väven, ten local libraries, and a library bus, the Culture School, and the Women’s History Museum.

Another area of responsibility is to support and strengthen cultural activities, especially among children and young people, and to conduct its own programming.

The public libraries of Umeå are part of the Umeå region's library collaboration with a shared media stock, loan system, and the website minabibliotek.se.

We are now looking for summer temporary staff for the City Library and some of our local libraries!

Your Responsibilities

As a temporary librarian, you will primarily work publicly, at the information desk, and with general tasks such as shelving books, guiding patrons, and reference work. One of the temporary positions includes working for a few days with Umeå Summer Zone at Nydalasjön together with staff from the Leisure Administration.

About You

We are looking for someone with an academic degree in library and information science. We would prefer if you have experience in library work.

You have an inclusive approach and the ability to create good encounters. You enjoy working outwardly with a focus on high service levels. You like meeting people of all ages. You are good at collaborating with others and can also work independently. We place great importance on personal qualities.

Other Information

The positions are temporary summer jobs, part-time 75%. Start from 2026-06-29 to 2026-08-16 (weeks 26-33). The length of the temporary positions varies. No library closes later than 19:00 Monday to Friday. The City Library is open on Saturdays during the summer.
